Publisher's summary

The perfect cozy mystery for Halloween, with everyone's favorite phantom in a tale of family secrets, yesteryear romance, and spirits less friendly than herself.

Fans of Nancy Atherton's beloved series are eagerly awaiting her latest supernatural treat, as her lovable heroine Lori Shepherd is drawn into another adventure sure to tantalize the mind and touch the heart.

In Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil, Lori's twins are now toddlers, walking and talking enough to drive her nearly stir crazy. So she jumps at the offer of a break - a trip to evaluate a rare-book collection in a remote and misty corner of Northumberland. On a dark and stormy night in late October, she sets out for Wyrdhurst Hall, the grim neo-Gothic castle owned by newlyweds Nicole and Jared Hollander. On the way there she encounters Adam Chase, a charming, handsome stranger who knows more than he's telling about the hall's mysterious secrets. Lori falls under Wyrdhurst's spell - and Adam's - when she unearths a cache of World War I letters that tell a tale of doomed love and hint at a treasure hidden in the hall. It will take all of Dimity's supernatural skills to help Lori solve the puzzle and restore peace to a family haunted by its tragic past.

Great book!

Great book, as all in the series are! And I enjoy the narrator- I don’t understand the bad reviews about her performance of the book. She might not have a accent down, but geez, giver her a break! She does an excellent job of putting life into the characters, and you can clearly tell which character is talking, there is no mixing them up.. because of her talent for different voices!

Love the books but not the narrator

Great books but the narrator was monotone and choppy during the book. Took away from the story....

I love the Aunt Dimity series, this book has a great unexpected storyline. I think I finally got use to this narrator, after this being the sixth book. I high reccomend this book and series.

Aunt Dimity rules.

The story started off with a bang and ended with an altogether different bang. There were many twists and interesting people and a very persistent ghost. It would have been better if the narrator didn't sound like an AI version of a kindergarten teacher.

Another good Dimity story

Ms. Atherton succeeded in another good book. I still like Aunt Dimity's Death best but thus far there's not a bad one in the bunch.

The worst narration

This is the worst narration I’ve ever experienced. Enunciation is overdone. Accents are pitiful. This narrator is over her head. I gave up. I could take no more. Read the book, don’t listen.

Where did they find this narrator?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I had read the book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thought I would listen to it on Audible while I baked. Good heavens!! If this was my first introduction to these books, and went by the narrated version, I never would have read another. Truly awful, stilted, almost embarrassing . I have heard many amateur narrators do a MUCH better job. This person utterly fails to capture the vivacious character of Lori. Save your money, or credit!

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Teri Clark Linden?

Almost anyone... Someone with a relaxed narration style who uses expression and 'gets' the character they are representing, ESP. First person narration!
