Publisher's summary

Marie Bostwick weaves the unforgettable story of four very different women whose paths cross, changing their lives forever.

It’s a long way from Fort Worth, Texas, to New Bern, Connecticut, yet it only takes a day in the charming Yankee town to make Evelyn Dixon realize she’s found her new home. The abrupt end of her marriage was Evelyn’s wake-up call to get busy chasing her dream of opening a quilt shop. Finding a storefront is easy enough; starting a new life isn’t.

Little does Evelyn imagine it will bring a trio like Abigail Burgess, her niece Liza, and Margot Matthews through her door. Troubled and angry after her mother’s death, Liza threatens to embarrass her aunt Abigail all over town unless she joins her for quilting classes. A victim of downsizing at the peak of her career, Margot hopes an event hosted by the quilt shop could be a great chance to network—and keep from dying of boredom.

As they stitch their unique creations, Evelyn, Abigail, Liza, and Margot form a sisterhood they never sought—but one that they’ll be grateful for when the unexpected provides a poignant reminder of the single thread that binds us all.

Christian oriented fiction

Well written but somewhat heavy handed in the religious area. One abortion fuels lifelong regret. Lots of church going and praying (on the sly). Breast cancer, quilting and close friendships. Betrayal by a sister and retribution. Nonetheless, I felt these women were real people and I particularly enjoyed the good dialogue.

Not For Me

This book simply was not a book for me. It was just too soft. I could not develop much feelings for the characters and the storyline. It was like a Hallmark movie. No depth and no substance.

Just a hint.

I wrote a review for the 4th book, but if you happen to check out the 1st book in the series, here goes. This is by far a wonderful series. It is both clean and interesting. Just make sure you start with the 1st book and continue to the 4th. When I say 4th, I hope this is not the end of the series. I highly recommend this series.

Way too religious

What disappointed you about A Single Thread?

I like theme mysteries and I didn't realize that this book would be so religious. I didn't even finish it. A waste of a credit. I guess I need to research authors better as I don't know how I would have known that this book wasn't for me.

I'm Signing Up for the Series!

I enjoyed this book tremendously. The story of women supporting each other was heartwarming. I really liked different characters with different voices and view points. A story where people make progress in their personal growth is always a winner in my book. A great read! I enjoyed not having to deal with profanity. I plan to read more of this series.

The narrator(s) ruined this for me...

It took a minute for me to realize why I couldn't get into this book...it was primarily the "elderly" narrator (there were two: one read in a younger voice-sometimes too young for the character; while the other read for the older women characters in a very old, matronly voice). Her voice didn't help the book at all. It kind of grated on my nerves and I wasn't sure why she felt characterizing 40-50-60 year old women as if they were 100! Her pitch and tone when changing characters was confusing. Also, I wish the author hadn't waited so long to flesh out the characters. I may listen to another book, but I will steer clear of the reader.

A Good Story, But...

If you could sum up A Single Thread in three words, what would they be?

The author develops the individual personalities well, putting them in authentic situations. She also deals with the many emotions involving breast cancer and its effects on the victim, family, and friends. This really hit home to me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Charlie, the curmudgeon with an Irish heart of gold. But I could relate best with Evelyn, the main character, and her many battles.

Which character – as performed by Pam Ward and Lorna Raver – was your favorite?

I enjoyed the development of Abigale's character, but thought the reader tried to make her sound TOO old. After all, she's 62 in the story, not 82!

If you could take any character from A Single Thread out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Charlie - only if he is cooking!

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this story very much, but it began to get preachy about halfway in, and I just wanted to zip past that. I don't need religion in my audiobooks unless I specifically order one that is about religions.

Narrators were great

I really enjoyed listening & getting to know the personalities. Good story, but I didn't realize how sad it was to be as that wasn't part of the description. But happy too...

Rooting for the characters in this book

Good character development. Story is read by the two main characters, switching over every other chapter. You will find yourself rooting for these women and girls. Quilting is one of the main themes in this story, so if you are a quilter you may identify with this story even more.

Abagail sounds like she's in her 80's, not 62!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, it's heartwarming and shows that people of different decades can be good friends. However, I found some of the characterizations to be stereotyped, especially the wealthy.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have gotten a different voice for Abagail.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Absolutely. I could barely listen to Abagail. She's supposed to be 62? I'm in my 60's and know many women my age. None of us sounds that old. We sound more like Evelyn. The author must be very young.

Could you see A Single Thread being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Probably a Hallmark.

Any additional comments?

Too bad. It was a heartwarming story, but I really had trouble getting past the narration.
