Publisher's summary

It is 1793, for love of war and money....

Once a French corvette, she was reborn HMS Jester, sleek and fast. At her sea-sprayed helm is former Midshipman Alan Lewrie, turned grizzled warrior by trade. But when Commander Lewrie reaches the island of Corsica, he gets orders for which even he is not prepared: lure his archenemy, French commander Guillaume Choundas, into battle - and personally strike him dead.

From splintering-hulled ships battling broadside to exotic ports of call, the adventures of Alan Lewrie capture an age of heroism and action on the great, wind-lashed fighting ships.

Great Nautical Historic Fiction

Dewey Lambdin is a master storyteller weaving the threads of history through the the life of a very healthy, aggressive, and occasionally conflicted young Royal Naval officer, Alan Yurie.
“A King’s Commander” is set in the late 1800’s in the Western Mediterranean with Commander Yurie in command of his first major sailing ship, “Jester”. It is a well crafted tale of sailing, spy craft, revenge and coincidences that leave you with no other conclusion but that Yurie has been touched by a lucky star.
This is not a children’s story. It is filled with sex and passion that, in my opinion, would not be appropriate for youthful consumption.
Let’s “Splice the Mainbrace”, hoist anchor, and sail off to see what glorious things we can do together.

Great story except for obsession with sex

I love this serie’s’ stories generally. The characters are interesting and the battle descriptions are excellent. And I don’t mind the fact that the main character continually is tempted to have illicit bouts with women. But theListenerdoesn’t need

good book, bad reader

I had read this book in hard copy and enjoyed it.
John Lee, the reader of the Audible edition is difficult to understand and makes it hard to listen to.

Don't bother unless you enjoy torturous whining

I think I'm done with Alan. Don't care his whores or his serial infidelity
