Publisher's summary

After three months in the suicide prevention wing of St. George's, Audrey Bales is finally coming home. Enrolled at a new school, she plans to reinvent herself with a new look, new friends, and a second chance to be just like everyone else. But the kids who drove her over the edge aren't through with her yet.

And one of her new friends has an agenda all his own.

"You will account for what you did to Audrey. You, and all the others. It will never stop ..."

During the day, the halls of Battlefield High will echo with their screams.

"...until one of you ends it."

And at night, their screams will be silenced.

Book 2

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Devil in Daylight?

The continuation of Audrey's story. She's getting her life back together, making friends, dating and generally being successful, even after that horrible bullying incident in which she nearly died. But trouble is brewing. There's a new kid at school with her and he's not what he seems.

Suicide without trying to make me suicidal

I want to start by saying that I was given this book for free by the author in exchange for an unbiased review. I don't like tucking it away at the end, and more importantly, I want to explain that the second I finished it, I bought the first book, which I hadn't previously read, and I'll likely be buying his other title on Audible once I finish.

I loved this book more than I had right to expect to. I kinda came in expecting a glib treatment of suicide, depression and mental illness in general as an accompaniment to an audio slasher film. I was terribly mistaken and I am so happy I chose to listen to this title.

As alluded to in my headline, I was most impressed with how well the dark and serious themes were handled. It's a rare author that can make me empathize with someone who has been in as dark a place as Audrey without resorting to the maudlin, or blatantly trying to evoke tears. I could understand her pain and despise her enemies with dry eyes and that is always to be appreciated. And this book is dark. DARK. I've had to revise estimates of exactly how jaded and cynical I really am after reading the secret of Ms. Drake.

The kids are well written, and not as I would generally expect. They're children as written by an adult, but not obviously. I was unsurprised to find out the author was a teacher of similarly aged children. They don't come out off as patronizing stereotypes using dated slang, or as cutouts being condescended to for an audience who'll understand how foolish it all is.

Jessica McEvoy's narration is approaching perfection. She manages low and smokey drawls that send shudders down my spine and does equally well with clipped, manic, almost frenzied eruptions. The performance was wonderful, emotion audible in every line of dialogue. She now easily in my top 3 female narrators of all time.

Great tale of anti bullying mixed with supernatural

2nd book in a series
With a serious
Message. Anti bullying with a spirit of 999 (with room for one more?) cautionary supernatural tale about the Internet and the cruelty of the current generation through cyber bullying. I really enjoy this story and the narrator does a great job with it. I received this audiobook from the author narrator or publisher for free via audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review.

Excellent Read ... Waiting Patiently for Book 3!!

Where does A Devil in Daylight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have over 250+ titles in my library and I believe that 50 are of this genre. Out of those 50 I would rank this book in my top 5!

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Devil in Daylight?

There was no one memorable moment for me ... the entire book kept me enthralled, engaged and excited for each chapter. I was disappointed when it ended ... wished it could have been longer. I was especially excited to see that Jessica McEvoy was narrating. She is one of my top 3 narrators when it comes to audio books. She manages to bring the storyline and characters to life for you. She has perfect intonation and knows exactly when to speak in a calm tone that gives you goosebumps and she knows when to be excited to almost manic allowing the reader to enjoy the book at a whole new level. Jessicas' narration is nothing less than perfect. I am patiently waiting for book 3 of this series!!

If you could rename A Devil in Daylight, what would you call it?

I wouldn't rename the book. I think A Devil in Daylight captures the story perfectly!

Any additional comments?

A great page-turner

The Devil in Miss Drake's class is the second in the series and picks up where book one left off... another cliff hanger. What I liked about this story is that it was different from the horror story meant to entertain us by shocking us. It's a little bit about bullying and a bit about the supernatural. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. Unfortunately, I have to wait for book three to find out. The characters are interesting, with the typical popular crowd, jocks, and of course the outcasts. Don't hesitate to listen. Jessica McEvoy has a great talent in portraying different characters, although I found her narration voice to be a bit sleepy. Overall though she did a pretty decent job.

2nd in series

Teens and young adult book but adults can enjoy as it has supernatural aspect (entities). Glad to see Audrey improved. You will want to follow up with the next book. The narration is for the younger crowd but tolerable. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. Thank You!

An excellent continuation!

I enjoyed the first book of the series and after this cannot wait to listen to the third! A beautifully narrated and wonderfully paced second act in the story of Audrey Bales. Definitely worth the listen or read.
