Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of A Country Escape by Katie Fforde, read by Jilly Bond.

Fran has always wanted to be a farmer. And now it looks as if her childhood dream is about to come true.

She has just moved in to a beautiful but very run-down farm in the Cotswolds, currently owned by an old aunt who has told Fran that if she manages to turn the place around in a year, the farm will be hers.

But Fran knows nothing about farming. She might even be afraid of cows.

She's going to need a lot of help from her best friend, Issi, and also from her wealthy and very eligible neighbour - who might just have his own reasons for being so supportive .

Is it the farm he is interested in? Or Fran herself?

Reliably light and enjoyable

What made the experience of listening to A Country Escape the most enjoyable?

I know what I'm going to get with Katie Fforde - she can be relied upon for very English chick lit. No surprises, but thoroughly enjoyable!

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Country Escape?

Nostalgia and cosy romantic familiarity. Don't expect great literature, but if you want a cup of tea and your slippers - this is for you.

Have you listened to any of Jilly Bond’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She always reads well - this is as good as her other readings.

Who was the most memorable character of A Country Escape and why?

Characters are all fun - somewhat static. Fran, the protagonist is like all of Fforde's heroines: middle class, somewhat skilled and incurably romantic.

Any additional comments?

This is great 'fluff' listening for me. There is nothing particularly thought provoking, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Another great Katie Fforde story.
A little typical but a great feel good story. Very easy to listen to and not want to put down

Whinging tone ; with no development to basic story

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Different narrator who made the characters very prissy, but this was also the fault of author who seems out of date. The basic polt and ideas are continuously repeated and it seems to be reliant on cut and paste themes and lines, instead of developing the plot or characters.

What was most disappointing about Katie Fforde’s story?

lack of development.

What didn’t you like about Jilly Bond’s performance?

The voice was petulant.

Lovely story but dreadful narration

This was my first Katie Fforde book and I loved the story but the narration was dreadful - so bad I gave up before the end. I’ll buy the written version to find out what happened!

A sweet romance

Like all Katie Fforde's novels, this is well written with sympathetic characters and a happy ending!

Awful narrating

I can’t even Finnish the book as the narrator is reading it like it’s a children’s book and I am 5 years old!! Awful

I have been reading Katie Fford for years and the is the first book that felt really formulaic

Disappointed story with nothing really happening to elevate it from the hum drum. Was not a fan of the narrator felt she really struggled with the male voices.
