Publisher's Summary

For some people, fentanyl can be a life-saver, easing profound pain. But outside of a doctor’s office, the powerful opioid drug is also a covert killer. In the last several years, clandestine drugmakers have begun experimenting with this ingredient, baking it into drugs sold on the streets, most notably heroin. Fentanyl and closely related compounds have invaded the entire heroin supply.

"Fentanyl's Fatal Toll Is Rising" is from the September 3, 2016 issue of Science News.

Timely

Our nation is in crisis. Our small state of Maine is even reeling with opioid addiction and overdose deaths.

This is a well-written, and very well read article that presents needed information in a clear and understandable format for the layman.
