Story
The year was 1803. It was a time when the West was not only frontier, it was the undiscovered country. It was the time of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, before the trains of Prairie Schooners and settlers, before cowboys or cattle drives, before Colonel Colt and the six-shooter, and nearly a three quarters of a century before George Armstrong Custer and his men were killed at Little Big Horn. It was a time when the western fur trade was new, and only the first of the mountain men had left the Mississippi behind on their journey into the wilderness.

Story
In the early 1870's, the young state of Texas was struggling to survive. Its vast, undeveloped land of over 260 thousand square miles became a haven for the lawless. Murderers, rustlers and renegade bands of hostile Indians and Comanchero roamed the vast wastelands of west Texas with only a narrow river separating them from the sanctuary of Mexico. One group of dedicated lawmen stood between this element and the law-abiding citizenry - the Texas Rangers. This is the story of one of those men.

Johnny Shooter was sentenced to hang at noon. But Judge Isaac Parker, widely known as the "Hanging Judge", made Johnny an offer he couldn't refuse. The judge made him a Deputy United State Marshal, then sent his new deputy after the worst-of-the-worst outlaws the Indian territory had to offer, with the orders not to burden the court by bringing them back for trial. Now, rumor has it that whenever outlaws gather around a campfire, the word is: "The only thing worse than standing before the Hanging Judge is hearing that Johnny Shooter is on your trail!"

Was it justice... or revenge? What drove a simple farmer to set out on an impossible quest after a gang of bloodthirsty killers that raped and murdered his wife and slit his small son's throat? Their trail led him halfway across the country and deep into Mexico. One by one he tracked them down and brought them to justice, sometimes at the end of a short rope, more often in front of his fast guns, and he didn't care which.

Improbable
A story that every middle school boy would love. A lot of sexual innuendo, the hero who can turn a lesbian straight and just happens to have a billionaire friend who loves doling out cash.
Added bonus is occasional tutorials that any adult needs not hear.
I did enjoy the first hour or so! :)
I do love this author tho, he would do better sticking to his cowboy stories....

Incredible Book
David R. Lewis does an incredible job introducing readers into one of the best series I've read in a very long time. Fear of Father: Call Me Crockett is a signature novel. I laughed, I hurt, I felt anger, I often times wanted to cry, and I cheered on the good guys in this book that enveloped all of my feelings and utilized each one at just the right moment as the novel progressed. The author IS one of the best in the business.

What made the experience of listening to Fear of the Father: Call Me Crockett the most enjoyable?
I like books by Robert B Parker, Tom Clancy, and many more. But I have found David R Lewis and I am hooked. I like the audible books and David narrates his own books. He gives the characters in the books more personality than any other books I have bought on audible. Try some for yourself and you will love it too. His voices for the characters good. Thank you David for the great books you have given us.

Much better than what I thought
As a fan of Lewis's books, I really didn't know how this might be. But his writing and reading of the story were both great. I loved all the Trail series, but .this one came up to the same standards I thought it would be.
