Publisher's summary
A Wall Street Journal best seller, Fear Is Fuel is changing lives around the globe. Find out why this is a must-have for anyone wanting the most out of their life.
Fear, the most powerful force in our life, is the least understood. Every one of us experiences it. Many arrange their lives to avoid it. Yet nearly every one of us needs to find more fear.
Change your relationship with fear, and you will change your life, like thousands of people around the world have. Most of us know fear as the unwanted force that drives phobias, anxieties, unhappiness, and inhibits self-actualization. Ironically, fear is the underlying phenomenon that heightens awareness and optimizes physical performance and can drive ambition, courage, and success. Harnessing fear can heighten emotional intelligence and bring success to every aspect of your life.
Neuroscience and current research on how the brain processes and uses fear have torn the lid off the possibilities of human performance, yet most people are not reaching their complete potential because of a psychological roadblock Sweeney calls the "Fear Frontier". Identifying your Fear Frontier and addressing it, as Sweeney illustrates in this book, is the path to success, happiness and fulfillment in almost all aspects of your life. He also provides the most effective steps toward rewiring your mind for a healthier, longer life based on courage.
Fear Is Fuel is a practical guide that directs everyone, including business and military leaders, activists, humanitarians, and educators, onto a unique path toward translating fear into optimal living. By facing fears, and challenging new ones, listeners can harness the power of unique motivations to achieve more, experience more, and enjoy more. The path to a fulfilling life is not to avoid fear, but to recognize it, understand it, harness it, and unleash its power.

Courage Comes Alive with 10 Great Guests
Sure, I'm biased, but after a full year of finding the perfect person to end each chapter, separating the absolute best 10-12 minutes from sometimes an hour long interview, and putting it into a world class production - this audiobook rocks!
The narrator:
I first met Lou at a conference in Martha's Vineyard and thought he had a great voice, and a very curious and courageous nature. He was the perfect choice to read this book. The sidebars were things that taught me a ton throughout life or things that I didn't know that I found really interesting, so I was excited to share those - plus another voice broke things up a bit.
The guests:
A reclusive billionaire, a major league baseball CEO, the first woman F-18 instructor pilot, the most brilliant mind in AI and brain imaging, the smartest neuroscientists at MIT, Amelia Earhart (really the one who made it all the way around), Silicon Valley's top CEO coach, an Emmy Award winning actor, the Head Psychologist at the Olympic Training Center for 15 years - the celebrities are amazing and they share their own stories in a very authentic way,.
The book:
#5 on the Wall Street Journal Best Seller list. 36 of the world's top neuroscientists and psychologist, all in plain English with practical steps to reprogram your life for courage and to deal well with uncertainty.
Turning adversity to advantage:
There are so many people who sent emails and messages about how the science in this book has helped them reprogram their mind and really change their lives for good - from getting on an airplane to starting a new business. Knowing how your brain works means you can willfully create the life you want. Give it a listen ,I know you'll learn much that you can use right now.

This book is incredible. We all have fears and must deal with them effectively to thrive. The author shares his own experience so we can relate. He breaks down complex science in a very understandable way to reinforce the concepts. But what I love most are the simple tools we can all use daily. Great narration. Entertaining, enjoyable and fun. Great book!

Fantastic book that will bring a fresh view on fear, backed up by some solid neuroscience.
I initially purchased the written version and loved it so much that I got the audio version too.
The interview that Patrick holds with special guest at the end of each chapter are great, and provide valuable additional information.

We all feel fear. Yet we are often taught to ignore it, overcome it, push past it. But to what benefit? This is the essential question that guides Kristen Ulmer's remarkable exploration of our most misunderstood emotion in The Art of Fear. Once recognized as the best extreme skier in the world (an honor she held for 12 years), Ulmer knows fear well. In this conversation-changing audiobook, she argues that fear is not here to cause us problems.

Toughness has long been held as a fundamental key to achieving peak performance. For generations, we've been taught toughness means bulldozing through—pushing to the point of breakdown—and that showing any sign of weakness is failure. This model of toughness has long been glorified and celebrated. But the truth is, it doesn't work. Steve Magness, a performance scientist who coaches Olympic athletes, now offers a new kind of toughness—real toughness—that can help anyone navigate adversity. Real toughness works with our biology and psychology; fake toughness fights against them.

The Code of the Extraordinary Mind is a blueprint of laws to break us free from the shackles of ordinary life. It makes a case that everything we know about the world is mostly decided not by rational choice but instead by conditioning and habit. And thus most people live their lives based on limiting rules and outdated beliefs about pretty much everything - love, work, money, parenting, sex, health, and more - that they inherit and pass on from generation to generation.
