Publisher's summary

Pushkin Industries presents Fauci: the first-ever audio biography of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of the most prominent voices in the US response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Written and narrated by New Yorker staff writer Michael Specter, Fauci combines Specter’s unparalleled reporting with exclusive new interviews and archival audio of Dr. Fauci; his wife, Christine Grady, RN, PhD; key colleagues; and peers. Listeners will hear Dr. Fauci speak firsthand about the harassment and death threats he has received as a result of his leadership and about the stress of simultaneously combating the COVID-19 pandemic and an information war waged by his boss, the president of the United States.

Specter has covered Dr. Fauci - and global public health - for more than three decades. In Fauci, Specter traces the doctor’s life from his childhood as a basketball-loving kid in Brooklyn through his leadership during the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s to today, when the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the future of viral research are shaping humanity. With its chorus of voices, archival recordings, and original score, Fauci brings the immediacy and energy of the best documentary podcasts to the audiobook format.

A struggle

This was hard to get through. The author’s pure and unquestionable hatred for the sitting President occupies as much space as Dr. Fauci’s story, which was what I thought the book was about. Sadly, that hate substantially discounts the story of a great Doctor, researcher, and leader. Shame on Specter for diverting the reader/listener, especially with the emphasis Dr. Fauci put on being "apolitical".

Fauci

I found this book very political, and Miss characterization of Dr fauci's medical views. I believe this author should not make so much of a political viewpoint in his writings.

I think the author missed the book title

I think the author missed the book title. The writer seemed to put in a lot of his opinion.
I was very disappointed.

Eye Opening

Not going to lie, audiobooks like this are far from what I normally what to listen to, but I'm glad I did. Not just a book about the man, but about how bio-engineering can/will change the world plus how we can learn from the past in order to ensure it changes it for the better. Very insightful and only about 3 hours in length. What do you have to loose? Start listening now...

Just politics

I bought this book because I wanted to learn about Fauci but shortly into the book I realized that it is just someone full of hate ranting about others who are full of hate delivering a political blow. Junk. I want my money back.

Well researched, well written and timely

Well researched, well written, timely and asked many important questions that will have to considered answered to avoid any future health catastrophes as have been seen recently.

Fauci YES Specter NO

A great man like Dr. Fauci deserves much better. Michael Specter perched himself atop Dr. Fauci’s well deserved hard won reputation then spewed his own politics of hate. We should have been listening to Fauci and others who warned us decade after decade about our failure to prepare. Specter would have us believe that our poor state of readiness is the sole result of the current administration’s policies over the last six months. That’s not a rational argument.

Love Fauci

This added so much to my understanding of the good doctor and also the future we must prepare ourselves for. Excellent listen.

Too One-Sided to be Complete

I rarely write book reviews. In this case, I feel I should help others understand what they should expect.

This book didn't seem to do anything very well. Filled with anti-Trump vitriol and laced with Fauci's supposed infallibility, I now feel like I need to go and read an anti-Fauci book to hear the full story. For a book that talks so much about how apolitical Fauci is, this seems to do him a huge disservice by making such enormous and sweeping political statements.

To be clear, this is not a book that talks about Fauci's background, but one that does all it can to show why/how, in the author's opinion, Trump has failed us all. Even on that topic, I would still only give it 1 star. The person who thinks they are the most objective is falling into a trap of their own creation.

Disappointing.

I thought this book was about Anthony Fauci. After 20+ minutes of listening, it's little more than a politically driven piece/Trump bashing session than it is about the actual subject. Total turn off for me.
