Purifying the well.

SPOILER(ISH) WARNING

As of writing this review there is another review labeled "Why" that claims this story contains willing slavery. This is not true, unless you somehow equate being granted noble titles and privilege's to slavery because they come with very serious responsibilities that you can't just pick and choose to follow. Lol Jia is not a Disney Princess, my dude.

Loved it

The cultivation/leveling is great. There is a reason and consequence for the protagonists to become suddenly very strong

excellent follow up to the first book

loved everything about it, was actually longer than the first and didn't disappoint. I will 100% be buying the next one and continuing the story on royal road in the meantime.

Messy direction but still great characters/world.

Not as good as the first volume as it extend itself too much with multiple witht points. With some if the arguable more interesting plot point not being focus on. Plus if you came to the audio book for the yuri aspect, this book seem to be going half and half and that possibility which lead me a bit dissapointed and worry on the dircetion on the two main characters relationship. Maybe that is the point as the story basically serve as a setback to the characters giving them many adversity they need to overcome in the next installment. This could lead and set up for an amazing third volume, but for now it just a bit mesdy but entertaining.

The characters are still great. They are constantly struggling but finding more things about themselve that are intriguing and engaging. More martial art magic and world building, still worth a listen especially if you enjoy the first. I was suck into the book quite easily and most people will also rnjoy it just as much.

Good book ruined by door mat MC

I was hesitant to listen to this series as I have heard some bad things about the second book. I decided to give the series a chance and really enjoyed the first book and was enjoying the second. That is until chapter 19. Sadly what I heard turned out to be true and I ended up dropping the series.

A major part of this book involves mind control and I think for the most part the author handled it well. The problem is the MC is a door mat. You can give your MC a hero complex but when the MC signs her immortal life away to save someone who betrayed, mind controlled and had no problem killing her is where I draw the line. It’s not like the person she was saving was going to be killed either so there was not reason to rush the decision. Furthermore there was no build up to the decision and we hear about it after it happens. We just hear that the MC made a death oath to be a servant to another person. There were so many options that the MC could have taken. Suddenly deciding to sell herself into what amounts to slavery out of the blue just ruined my immersion and left a sour taste in my mouth. It is not just the action but the way the author handled it was infuriating as well.

Overall this is a good story and if you can stand the mind control or selling herself into slavery for what appears to be no reason you will find a good story. Sadly the author just decided to go in a direction I don’t enjoy.
