A magical vow, a fatal collision, and a rock that will change the world.

At eight years old, Dylan and Leah discover a disappearing mushroom in the magical woods that leaves behind a mystical, cubic black stone. Before Leah moves away, they split the stone and vow to be friends forever.

Decades later, Dylan is a brilliant computer scientist forced into the life of a wildly successful, yet dissatisfied, novelist. His life is shattered when he is run over by a luxury car while arguing intensely on his cell phone. As he lies bleeding on the asphalt, the driver secretly presses a familiar black stone into his hand. The stone grants him superhuman healing abilities, allowing him to wake up fully healed just days later. Leaving the hospital wearing only a gown and a single, inexplicable square of gauze taped to his face, Dylan walks home barefoot and makes a vow: he will stop writing novels and use his genius to expose the world's most corrupt secrets.

Dylan builds a command center of visibly powered-off laptops and begins furiously typing to hack into government and corporate databases. But his obsessive mission takes a dark toll. He suffers surreal visions of a black room and a mystical book, consulting a therapist who is actually a ghost. Tragedy strikes when his partner, Emily, quietly spirals into addiction and suffers a fatal overdose. Soon after, his best friend Jim is murdered by his own wife, prompting Dylan to cover his face in Jim's blood in a display of profound grief. Through it all, Dylan must stoically maintain his moral high ground, awkwardly rejecting the inappropriate advances of Jim's teenage daughter, Aly, to stay focused on his global hacking mission.

Hope returns when Dylan realizes his attending doctor was his childhood friend, Leah. Reunited by their matching black stones, they instantly resume their childhood romance. But shadowy entities retaliate by sending a government sniper and hitman to kidnap Leah. Unlocking the full potential of his magical rock, Dylan uses telepathy and literal teleportation to save her. In a massive, globally broadcast press conference at the National Archives, Dylan vaguely but passionately announces undeniable proof of all corporate and political corruption. As the crowd cheers, corrupt politicians and CEOs worldwide watch the broadcast and immediately commit suicide in shame.

Their fateful mission complete, Dylan and Leah return to the magical woods where it all began, walking off into the distance.
