Publisher's Summary

When tragedy strikes, a cold case suddenly turns hot - and deadly.

A peaceful morning is shattered when Washington Metro Police Lieutenant Sam Holland’s beloved father succumbs to injuries from an unsolved shooting while on duty four years ago. As the community rallies around Sam and her family, one thing becomes crystal clear: Her father’s death has turned the unsolved case into a homicide - and it’s on her to bring her father’s killer to justice.

But the case has been cold for years...until an anonymous tip that’s too shocking to believe leads Sam down a dark and dangerous path. Her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, knows if she can’t solve this case, it will haunt her for the rest of her life. She’ll need the strength of their bond to pull her out of the darkness before it’s too late, because as the missing pieces rapidly fall into place, Sam realizes the truth might just break her all the same - and that her father’s killer isn’t done yet....

Too Much Repition

I love the Fatal series, and most of the books in the series are outstanding and fascinating. A few haven’t been as interesting as I’d hoped, but the series overall sets the standard for love/intrigue/erotica stories. Unfortunately, this one to me is a little on the “not quite as good” side. Skip’s death, Sam’s reaction, and overdue justice are the center of the story, but I feel like Ms Force belabors the point. Most of the book is continuously repeating how great Skip was, to the point where it was just cut and paste storytelling. How many times to we have to hear about his gorgeous face, how much they love each other and "Babe" also "heartburn" I lost count of the number of times that was mentioned. The reason it bothered me so much was that it made the investigation rushed and kind of pointless. It seems like the whole case was investigated and wrapped up in a very small portion of the book, and most of it pretty unbelievably. Characters who’ve never appeared in the series, and didn’t actually appear in this book, other than being talked about, were responsible for these heinous crimes. I thought it was a flimsy slapped-together reason that was just thrown in to wrap up the story line. The one recurring character involved in the crime didn’t make much sense to me, as there had been no foreshadowing whatsoever to indicate he was an evil person willing to see one of his best friends killed to protect himself. It would have been more in character for him to have set up a sting to catch the bad guys than to have him set up his friend to be murdered. This was a huge miss to me.
Another plot point I found unbelievable was Sam wanting to set up and be centrally involved in a support group for relatives of violent crime victims. In every book, Sam is so overworked and overwhelmed by her job, she rarely sees her family. It stretches the imagination for her to be Second Lady, dedicated homicide detective, wife, mother of 3, and have time to lead a support group. It’s really not necessary for her to be Superhumanwoman. That’s probably nitpicky, but it’s really not feasible the way the character is written.
Eva Kaminsky was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Wow! This was the best.

I've listened to all of the books in this series and this is by far the best one yet! I so look forward to each of the books in the Fatal series. They get better with each one. This one had me crying from the first chapter and I'm so glad it answered a lot of questions that have been a continuing theme in the series. Can't wait for the next one!!! Thanks Marie Force.

Just what I expect from Marie Force.

Another good story in the "Fatal" series. Wrapped up a bunch of loose ends in an interesting and satisfying way. I'm looking forward to seeing what's gonna happen.next.

Wow

This book has had me in tears from the very start!! And I had a sneaking suspicion that both unsolved cases were connected. But wow! I was NOT expecting the close friend/colleague of Skip's was going to be involved. Marie Force you have done such an amazing job on The Fatal Series. I have one more book to listen to and sadly I will be done with this series but I look forward to reading more of your books! I'm a fan for life!

What a novel.

I am not the person who writes reviews but this series has pulled me in from the beginning. I am on the edge of my seat until the release of the next book. I have cried right along with Sam and her family when her Dad passed. Then finding out how they were so strung out by his friends. Now putting the department back together will be difficult. Nick as president will be interesting....and Sam as Chief of the department at the same time could make for an interesting next book.

This book caused me physical harm...

Okay, I limit myself to only listening while working out. I was on the treadmill running and starting crying so my vision became blurry and I mis-stepped - tore menicus in my knee. On the bright side - I will have lots of reading time after surgery. I LOVE all of Marie Force's books and ride the roller coaster of emotions in them all but have never been brought to tears before (I'm not a crier). I can't believe Skip died! I can recommend this series to anyone whether you prefer crime drama or romance. BUT, you must start with the first book to gain the context.

Another Winner!!!

Except for the spoiler starting in the very first sentence of the Publisher's Summary (WHY WOULD THE PUBLISHER DO THAT?!!!), this is a perfect follow-up on Samantha's ongoing story. I can hardly wait for the next one.

I saved this one for a few weeks in order to listen as I made an eight-hour drive from PA to MA. It was well worth the wait. After reading all the previous books in this series, I found myself feeling all kinds of emotions along with Sam, her family and friends. It is like I know these people personally! Marie Force has me roped in as one of the close friends, maybe even a detective in the squad. My long drive on a weekday, during rush hour in several states, did not phase me. I was there before the book ended and the highlight of my evening was listening to the conclusion.

I'm being vague about the story because I don't want to add to the big spoiler already given. Please, Audible, remove that spoiler from the summary.
