Publisher's summary

Washington, D.C., Police Lieutenant Sam Holland and her husband, U.S. Senator Nick Cappuano, have been looking forward to a quiet Thanksgiving with their son. But any thoughts of a restful holiday are dashed when Sam and Nick return home to a gruesome scene: Sam's 17-year-old niece Brooke, barely conscious and covered in blood on their front stoop.

With lines between personal and professional blurring in this emotionally charged, deeply personal case, Sam is relying on Nick more than ever for support. But when suspicious images from the night in question appear on social media, Sam begins to wonder if her niece is telling her everything she knows about what really happened. And when Nick questions her tactics - and her ethics - as she races against the clock, Sam - will need to decide how far she's willing to go to prove Brooke is a victim, not a murderer.

Loved it!

Couldn't stop listening to it. Can't wait to start the next book. I had to peak while listening to see what the next one was about to make sure everything turned out okay. I don't normally "cheat" like that...

Love Sam and Nick!

I love Marie Force because she has given me LT. Sam Holland and Senator Nick Cappuano, one of my favorite all-time romantic couples! This series just keeps getting better and better with each book. Their deep love is the core of the story with Sam’s escapades in the police department causing the calmer, more sedate Nick much concern. Their banter is sexy and humorous, and I melt when Nick tells Sam how much she means to him which he does about every other page! Seriously, these two are hot, hot, hot!

There are plenty of other repeating characters in each book to keep the story interesting including family members , co-workers , and an obsessive ex-husband just to name a few. I won’t go into the plot of this book except to say it was explosive as usual. I wasn't sure if I was happy or not with the ending as I am now worried how this big change is going to affect their relationship, but I trust the author to lead them where they need to go.

Ms. Force has said she will keep writing about Sam and Nick as long as her fans want to read about them. Of course, we will! I, for one, would be happy to read about them until they are old and gray – I suspect they will still be madly in love and living a crazy life. Here’s hoping for a least a few more books in the series!

My Favorite so Far

Sam and Nick come home to find a body on their porch. It turns out to be Sam’s niece, Brooke beaten, drugged, and potentially raped. Brooke was supposed to be at school in Virginia. How did she get to D.C.? Shortly Sam realizes that Brooke is connected to the murdered teens that Sam’s team is investigating. Sam quickly realizes that Brooke is involved with the brutal murders more than she admits. Who dropped Brooke at Sam’s door? What does she know?

Fatal Jeopardy is one of my favorite books in the series so far. The murders and the tie into Sam’s family made me wonder from the start how they would prove that Brooke is a victim. The Brooke arc is carried over from a prior book. She is getting into trouble and hanging with the wrong crowd. Sam helps her sister find a new school hoping the separation from her friends will be a positive influence. I hurt for Sam and her sister.

In addition to the police procedural, Marie Force adds spice to the story. Nick isn’t happy with Sam. He is anxious to go on vacation and Sam drops everything to handle the case. It is a little strange that she is allowed on this case that involves family, but that happens all the time in stories like this. I love the continued story arcs for the support characters. I’m equally involved with their storylines as Sam and Nick.

Nick’s career has the potential to change. He is dealing with a Presidential request that he replace the current Vice President, who is in bad health. Nick is trying to work through the logistics for Sam. She needs to be a cop. How can he be VP when Sam’s career will suffer? Nick has a lot to think about and Nick and Sam need to come together and face this opportunity as a unit. It causes a lot of anxiety and changes for Nick and Sam. As if this isn’t enough, Sam’s father needs surgery.

Fatal Jeopardy is action packed with suspense, and romance. Eva Kaminsky does an excellent job narrating the story. Like the other book I listened to, she takes me away to the world of Sam Holland and company. I look forward to listening to more books in the series.

The crime solution was well constructed

I listened to this book via Audible and read some via Kindle. The Marie Force Fatal series is only available in these formats from Audible/Amazon.
I am plowing through this multi-book series, and find these books to be 3-4 stars, depending on the subject of the crime. In this book, the crime involves multiple murders at a teen party when the parents were away. One of the young people who escaped alive is the niece of the lead female character in the series, Lieutenant Sam(antha) Holland, Washington D.C. Metro Police.
As I have mentioned in my reviews of the 6 prior books, I like the recurring characters in the series which focuses on Sam, her husband Nick Cappuano, their colleagues, family and friends. This series should be read in order. (The books do contain "swears" and a healthy dose of sex, in case you need to know that as a plus or minus prior to reading.)
The crime and the police investigation was well constructed, with good logic in solving it. I think that is why I gave this one 4 stars instead of 3. The solution is not obvious and comes about through good police work. Good series. Quick reads/listens.

Gruesome but good

A gruesome story but one I couldn't put down. This series has grown on me and I find myself eager to finish each book and start the next. I'm glad there are a few more.

The characters make this all work. I really like Freddy. And Nick is still too good to be true. Sure, the situations may not be as accurate as real-life but it's entertaining.

A great series

Another interesting story told well with well written characters I have grown to care about. I'm so glad there are so many books in this series. I like that each book basically picks up from the last book.
