Publisher's Summary

The wife of the White House deputy chief of staff has been beaten to death, and their one-year-old daughter is missing. D.C. Police Lieutenant Sam Holland is in charge of the murder investigation, but she's forced to collaborate with Special Victims Unit detectives as well as thorn-in-her-side FBI Special Agent Avery Hill. Then, a cold case of her father's resurrects old hurts - a distraction Sam cannot afford.

As Sam's investigation heats up, so does Nick's political career - and the heat carries over to their bedroom. Will Sam put the pieces together in time to catch a killer and find the baby? Or will ambition, greed and lies prove fatal?

Fatal Deception Sizzles!!

For me, Fatal books are one's to savor. Even if I get an ARC, I still wait because once I finish it, that's it for a while, I'm done. So I like to take my time, read slow and really ENJOY the time I get to spend with Sam, Nick and the whole Fatal crew. Yes, it did only take me a day to read this last installment, but every hour was soooooo worth the wait.

Fatal Deception sucks you into the plot from the first chapter and has you on a roller coaster ride of suspense until the very end. I had so much fun reading this book, I wished I could be Sam for the day...Sometimes her job can be SO MUCH FUN!!

The emotions were running high, the sexual chemistry between Nick and Sam was OFF THE CHARTS HOT, and we have some great new characters ready to stir up some action. I will say that I did kind of fall a little in love with FBI Agent Avery Hill, I really enjoyed being able to get into his head and I do hope that Marie finds him a soul mate...he really is the "heart stealer" of the book.

There are so many things that I want to say, but I hate giving ANYTHING away, especially to my tasty readers who are HUGE Fatal Fans. All I will say is that you won't be able to get enough, especially when Nick takes charge...oh baby...just you wait!! And the end, if the "letter" doesn't have you tearing up, then a certain conversation will have you reaching for a tissue.

Marie, I love this series, and I guess we can thank Baby Sofia for being stubborn and not wanting to come out, that I was able to read and review Fatal Deception. I am so excited for what you have in store for us next, and I will be a Fatal Fan For Life!!

Another hit for the "Fatal" series!!

What would have made Fatal Deception better?

This is the 5th book inthe "Fatal" series by Marie Force. The first book takes you by storm and the storm hasn't stopped yet. I suppose any could be read alone, but if read in order if you can. I hated to have the story stop---I'll need to wait months for another installment!I read dozens of books each month---few have gripped me so quickly and entertained me so well as the "Fatal" books. This one doesn't disappoint!

Southern, not stupid

Hated, hated, hated the southern accent. OMG! Horrible! And please let Nick do something worse than hang up his clothes. He is too good to be true even for a romance novel. I am starting to hate him! I have read and listened to all these books, and I need a more flawed hero! I actually like Sam, but I can't see her with Nick. They are turtle doves!UGH!

Still loving this series!

The story centers around the murder of the wife of the White House deputy chief of staff. Also egregious is the kidnapping of their 13-month old daughter. As the investigation progresses, shocking discoveries are made that will impact the political landscape.

I really enjoyed this story as the investigation is front and center. It was perplexing to unravel, even though early suspicions point in an obvious direction as the details weren't as apparent. Relationships continue to move forward and provide plenty of depth to the story. Sam and Nick are fast becoming a favorite couple and the people surrounding them make interesting secondary storylines. There's lots of humor to accompany the obvious heartbreak and the romance. I'm loving the series.

Best of the Series

This is the very best of a very good series, so far. I enjoyed every minute of it and was very glad that it wrapped up some dangling ends from other parts of the series. Can't wait to start the next one!

Just Love This Series

Each book in this series just gets better. FBI agent Avery Hill deserves a great lady but definitely not Sam. Nick and Sam are fated.

Great characters

Another good book in this series. A young mother is murdered and her child abducted. Sam and her team aren't given many clues and they have to dig deep to figure this out. Throw in politics, cold cases, and personal issues and Marie Force has given us an entertaining story. The characters in this series are likable and interesting; I'm invested in what happens to them.

A few nit picky things. Too much time is spent, in each book, in going over things that happened earlier. If the author is trying to make each book a stand-alone I feel it's annoying to readers who have been following the series. Give us some credit. And I think each successive book is getting a bit more graphic sexually. I'm not a prude and I read a lot in the romance genre but the dive into fifty shades was, IMO, a bit much. Actually, I fast forwarded through that.

Still, I look forward to continuing this series. Who can't like Scotty and I'm curious to see what happens to him.

Gerting better and better

This series is getting more and more like the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb - I see many parallels. I like the story around Sam & Nick almost as much as I did (do) the one around Dallas & Roarke. However, the narrators of the "Fatal" series aren't quite up to Susan Ericksen. Especially the character of FBI agent Avery Hill is awful to my ears - sooooo slooooooow.
