Beth and Jennifer know their company monitors their office email. But the women still spend all day sending each other messages, gossiping about their coworkers at the newspaper and baring their personal lives like an open book. Jennifer tells Beth everything she can't seem to tell her husband about her anxieties over starting a family. And Beth tells Jennifer everything, period. When Lincoln applied to be an internet security officer, he hardly imagined he'd be sifting through other people's inboxes like some sort of electronic Peeping Tom.

Publisher's Summary
Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to university, and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair any more - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She's horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life.
Without Wren, Cath is completely on her own and totally outside her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend; a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world; a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words...and she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
Now Cath has to decide whether she's ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she's realizing that there's more to learn about love than she ever thought possible.
A love story about opening your heart by Rainbow Rowell, the New York Times best-selling author of Eleanor & Park.
Fangirl now comes with special bonus material: the first chapter from Rainbow's irresistible novel Carry On.

Great Stoyrteller
The plot itself did not appeal to me, but I gave it a go after a friend recommended it. Rowell is a fantastic storyteller, she brings the characters alive and I find myself suddenly caring very much about them. What really disappointed me was the ending. There wasn't one. I was very surprised when the story suddenly ended at what story wise is perhaps 2/3 through the character and plot development. Partly it is a testament to the writer's ability that I find this so upsetting. But it takes away from the story for me, that the book ends so suddenly and without allowing the characters to achieve something significant. Perhaps there is a sequel? It feels more like a short story than a novel. I really would have liked to know what happens next.

Great Read!
This is a great look at the struggle of being a new person in a new place. I wish I had this when I had started university but was definitely grateful when I started school again. As with most Young Adult books there was a romance that had an issue and there was a lack of communication which I normally find annoying but I was able to overlook this as the story was able to shine through and the romance was secondary to the overarching theme of being yourself and the fact that you will get through a change no matter how impossible it seems.

Emotional and addictive
Initially it feels like the usual coming of age story but it’s an emotional road to get there. A thoughtful story where you feel for all the characters. My only complaints were the Simon Snow interruptions, which I know are actually important to the story, I just found them to break the flow. I also felt the transition of Cathe from non tounchy to touchy felt like an immediate switch rather than a build-up. I liked the closing of the story with Nick, he was a d**k.

Not my usual read but I loved it so much!
I loved this so much! The fact that it wasn't based on sci-fi and fantasy but I still enjoyed it so much means 5 stars. The prose was written so well at times - great evening read to listen to, the descriptive rhythm lulled my anxiety to a gentle sway. I love Cath and Levi so much! I'd date either of them I'm crushing so hard - but in the end they are perfect for each other. I love Reagan so much too! She's a no shits given bad ass with a warm heart. I warmed up to Wren at the end and I thought Art was the perfect blend between 'cool-dad' and 'not-a-Gary-Stu'. I could go on but honestly Rainbow did a brilliant job of making you feel exactly about the characters as you should. The scenes that pulled the heartstrings feel real - both good and bad ones. The potentially mushy scenes were romantic without being an eyerolling cliché. The read was kinda slow but I think it was a character driven story so that's ok. It wasn't painful slow. I saw a lot of myself in the characters and learnt alongside Cath in her experiences. The narration of this audiobook (I put down the actual book to listen to it halfway through - eyes sore from the flu) was actually really nice and the right mix of calm while still keeping the emotions. I love it, thank you so much to Rainbow and the narrator.

I've been three books deep into a fantasy series and needed a break to regroup. Fangirl was a good feel good book with good believable characters and story line. If your looking for something light hearted that touches on some deeper life issues, try this book.
