Publisher's summary

Macon Fallon had never needed more than a deck of cards, a fast horse, and a ready gun; he was counting on those things now as he led an unsuspecting group of settlers to an abandoned mining town. But while Fallon prepared to pass the ghost town off as a gold mine in the making, a funny thing happened: a real-life community started to take shape in the town he’d christened Red Horse.

So when a band of vicious outlaws and a kid who fancied himself a gunslinger threatened to rip Red Horse apart, Fallon found himself caught in one predicament he’d never gambled on. He had come to Red Horse to make a quick fortune, but now he might have to pick up a gun and risk his life for a place he never wanted to call home.…

Fallon by Louis L’Amour

What a clever story line on this enjoyable novel by Louis L’Amour!
This book has a different twist to it, so the reader will be surprised if the expectation is the lawman vs. bad guys narrative. A real treat!

In the tip theee!

I’ve listened to almost every L’amour available, and ‘‘tis one is second only to one other narrated by Culprit. Who, by the way, is simply the best. Original story. Humor. Suspense. Just everything you’d like to hear in a L’amour.

Excellent book

This was an excellent book. My first L’Amour book that I have read or heard. I truly loved it. I will purchase many more. I listened to the entire book in one setting overnight. I couldn’t go to sleep until I finished it. The book was very, exciting. It had everything that you could imagine in a western. I will purchase another right away. It will take you away from the crazy things going on in this world and allow you to dream again.

Card tricks, bare knuckle fighting, gun action

Not the best Louis L'Amour but not bad either. I've often wondered why we live where we live now? Largely we are following in the footsteps of our ancestors who came to live in these places. Is that a good enough reason to stay in a place, or are there better places to be? So then, how did towns come to be where they are now? What drew people to the location in the first place and what made the resulting town desirable? This book gives one potential scenario and does so in reasonably entertaining fashion. For that, I value it.

Certainly no cookie-cutter western

This is some inspired storytelling from beginning to end and, frankly, I didn’t want it to end. Given the entertaining trajectory of the main character, Macon Fallon, one more chapter would have been a real treat. Is Fallon a bad man masquerading as a good man or a good man masquerading as a bad one? The community that grows up around him will have a little something to say about that. Jason Culp narrated the story superbly, adopting an absolutely perfect tone to bring about just the right amount of humor and complexity for Fallon. I found myself grinning rather broadly at the end.

A little different, but still classic L’Amour.

It has all the earmarks of a L’Amour with a lengthy fistfight, western history, and a variety of tough personalities. This one has a delightful twist to the ending and Jason Culp presents it superbly.
