It's Romeo and Juliet all over again.... As a teen Maddy Harvey was a bit of an ugly duckling. Luckily she's blossomed since then, and Maddy thanks God for this small miracle when a tall, handsome stranger comes to her rescue one starry summer's night.

But instant attraction turns to a disaster in the making when Maddy learns the identity of her superman: Kerr McKinnon. Of all the colorful residents of the small Cotswold town of Ashcombe, why did it have to be him? Because, as family feuds go, the Montagues and the Capulets have nothing on the Harveys and the McKinnons.

I read this book many years ago and it was light and sweet as all Jill mansell's books are. Good for a mindless smile. Listening to this book though?? The narrator BUTCHERS it. I couldn't bear to listen to it, even in the background.

The narration makes the book unbearable

The book itself was up to the normal Jill Mansell standard but the narrator's accent was off putting. I almost didn't listen but persisted. Glad I did but will be reluctant to purchase another read by Molly O'Malley.

Loved the book. Made me laugh and cry. The narrator sounds like a good actress but she does a terrible English accent. Too American. Next time hire an actual English woman.

Great book as always by Jill Mandell.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Jill Mansell writes books that are fun and romantic and sometimes very touching. I've listened to her whole list on Audible, and it NEVER occurred to me that the publishers would have this latest book read by an American with a painfully poor English accent. Because of TV and movies and for the lucky, travel!, most Americans can tell the difference between the fake and the real. I preordered this book and it is maddening to settle down to listen only to find that it has been ruined by a bad narrator. I don't know if I'll be able to make it through this book; I'll probably have to return it even though Audible doesn't allow very many returns each year. The story has started out well, and I'm hating that the people in charge don't get that the story is only the beginning of an audiobook. The narrator makes or breaks it. There is of course the personal taste of the listener; some of us are fond of readers that others dislike. There are few narrators in the US who can really do foreign accents well, and I often think that often it would be better not to try. But the badly done English accent is particularly offensive since it is so very obvious. (Well, badly done southern accents are annoying too.)

Would you be willing to try another book from Jill Mansell? Why or why not?

I would happily listen to another book by Jill Mansell if it's read by a British narrator.

What didn’t you like about Bailey Carr’s performance?

She DOES NOT HAVE an English accent; she is all over the place in how she says the even the same word from time to time; she mispronounces words; she has to speak very, very slowly so that she can try to get the accent right, but it doesn't work; she slips all the time. She should never have been hired to do this. Nails on chalkboard!

Any additional comments?

Do better by Jill Mansell!

Another horrible fake English accent

The author creates a visual of each character and you can imagine hearing them with the great performance.

It's a happy story that will lift your mood!
