Publisher's Summary

A rushed rescue mission doesn't go as planned for retired Marine Jesse McDermitt and the crew of Gaspar's Revenge. The two kidnap victims are rescued, but they'd rather be taken back to the Jamaican drug runners who were hired to kill them than return home to laid-back Beaufort, South Carolina, and give the man who wants them dead the chance to hire someone more competent.

Crisscrossing hundreds of miles of open Atlantic Ocean, with a weather eye on a powerful hurricane, Jesse and his crew come up with a plan to lure out the man behind the double murder plot. A high speed run from the Out Islands to the South Carolina coast is fraught with peril. However, Jesse knows that the real danger lies in the sleepy little coastal town not far from where he was once stationed.

When southern politics, power, and money collide, double crosses are the name of the game. Guns blaze and big diesel engines roar, in the spooky marshes of the Lowcountry, as an innocent child's life hangs in the balance.

9th book in this wonderful action thriller series!

This may be the best novel in the Jesse McDermitt series. It is set in the coastal town of Beaufort SC rather than in the Florida keys. Beaufort is a few miles north of Savannah GA and it is the location of both the US Marine training camp at Parris Island and the Hilton Head Island and Fripp Island resorts. (Author Pat Conroy lived in Beaufort and his novels are set there.) It is also the current home of Wayne Stinnett, the author. Like all of the books in this series the action and suspense occur on boats and on islands. Retired US Marine Jesse McDerrmitt is similar to Jack Reacher in his style and methods, except that he is wealthy. Narrator Nick Sullivan is superb. I highly recommend this series as well as the Charity Styles series by the same author.

Masterfully interpreted reading. Jump aboard.

This is my first novel by Wayne Stinnett. I am a sucker for anything nautical. The detail he goes into about boat tides navigation and the research he does on the ports the boats visit make his writings come alive.Nick Sullivan is incredible in his reading and interpretation of characters with appropriate accents. This was a tough book to do and Nick nailed it. Travel from the Bahamas to the keys to the Lowcountry of South Carolina and enjoy the ride on a high-speed 45 foot mega boat

Feels like the same story repeated over and over

still enjoyable to listen to in order to pass some time, but it kind of feels like now hes jist pumping out books to make money. The books are getting shorter in length and it no longer feels like its worth the $13+ that they are charging.

new narrator needed

the story isn't bad but the way the narrator handles it makes Jesse sound like a skinny guy standing in front of a class giving a speech with perfect diction. on the boat, I would picture him in a suit and a Fuller Brush salesman bag. Jesse, the narrator, needs some balls, like a marine would have. The bad guys in the story sounded more real then Jesse.
