Publisher's summary

Against the peaceful night sky, a barn burns.…

Sarah Kauffman sought permission from her church elders to paint murals on a few of the Amish community's barns. Each was designed like an old-fashioned quilt square, representing a piece of the Amish traditions Sarah loved. The works of art were intended to draw more tourists to the Home Valley in the struggling economy. But instead, they invited a menace. One by one, each barn is set ablaze and destroyed.…The arson fires spread fear through the community - amongst Amish and Englischers alike. Now Sarah wonders if she's being punished for her pridefulness…or whether there's a more malevolent will at work.

As an outsider, arson investigator Nate MacKenzie struggles to investigate the crime scenes while adhering to Amish ways. With Sarah as his guide, he warms to the Plain People and their simple ways. As the fires rage, beliefs are challenged, a way of life is questioned and family secrets are exposed. In the aftermath of the destruction the people of the Home Valley must join together to raise their barns and their hopes for the future.

meh

I liked the story, but I couldn't get over the narrator's crappy fake accent. The characters are Amish. Pennsylvania Dutch. Not vampires from Romania.

Sweet and innocent

Any additional comments?

Sweet... maybe a little too sweet. The ending was predictable midway through the book but I still listened to the end. The writing is pretty good and the story is quite slow paced but is in keeping with the Amish lifestyle.
If your looking for action and adventure... this isn't the book for you. However... if your in the mood for relaxing and innocence then it's perfect.
I did enjoy the book, in spite of the drawn out innocence and nativity of the main character.

Love Karen Harper Books!

Would you listen to Fall from Pride again? Why?

Probably not. Too many other good books and not enough time

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Who has time for that

Any additional comments?

I'm so happy Audible is carrying More Karen Harper books. She's one of my favorite authors. She puts just enough mystery and excitement in a book that I can still listen to before I go to bed without worrying about nightmares. But enough to keep me interested and want to keep listening and looking forward to her next book.

Wow, what a surprise! I really enjoyed the twist!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely if they were mystery readers. It was a fun ride to read about the Amish and the mystery tied to a love story. I would love to see a sequel/continuation of the story.

What other book might you compare Fall from Pride to and why?

I really can't say because I don't read mysteries normally, I like to read stories of the Amish and I took a chance with this book. It was very good.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't want to give the story away, but the entire book was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several places that were very moving. Again, I don't want to give anything away to a new reader, but the book is worth reading.

Any additional comments?

I hope to see a sequel. Ms. Harper you have a 5 star from me! Thank you for a good book.

I had high hopes for this one

But it turned out to be a terrible story. It was less an Amish arson mystery and more of a too detailed "adult book". The main characters behaved like hormonal teenagers than a professional and a "good" Amish girl. The whole love story played out very poorly, as well. If you are looking for the type of book that some would call "steamy" here you go. The author should double check her facts on the Amish, as well.

I normally don't have anything bad to say about the narrator, but this was bad. The main character was the only one with an understandable, but overly soft voice. Everyone else sounded like vampires from Transylvania. And listening on headphones at times was tough when the dialog between 2 characters varied between a very quiet, almost whispering man and a very loud and boisterous Southern woman. I turned it on high to make out what he said and threw off my headphones when she talked. Pronunciation is important too.

There are too many things I could recommend to improve the story, but I can't go on that long. But details about the main male character and the Amish female character making out heavily throughout the book. around her Amish parents too, ruined the story. The ending was terrible.

Good Story

Story was good. It was a little sluggish at times. The performer made it difficult at times to determine which person was speaking. All in all it was a nice book. I will continue the series.

Great story but...

This was a great story. I enjoyed the suspense. I didn't like the narration though. It was rather obnoxious listening to the narrator try to do all the different voices.

Good Amish Mystery

Any additional comments?

The Audible version of Fall from Pride by Karen Harper was a good listen. I always enjoy an Amish mystery, and Fall From Pride was no exception. In fact, the characters and mystery seemed more real than in other Amish mysteries that I’ve read. I imagine that the inclusion of some modern ways and attitudes might be more reflective of Amish life in 2015, although I don’t know if that’s true or not. In any event, Karen Harper wrote an engaging mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely a good listen!
