Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller Karin Slaughter brings back her two most fascinating and complex characters - medical examiner Sara Linton and her ex-husband, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver - in a heart-pounding tale of faith, doubt, and murder....

The victim was buried alive in the Georgia woods - then killed in a horrifying fashion. When Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver stumble upon the body, both become consumed with finding out who killed the pretty young woman. For them, a harrowing journey begins, one that will test their own turbulent relationship and draw dozens of life into the case.

For as Jeffrey and Sara move further down a trail of shocking surprises and hidden passions, neither is prepared for the most stunning discovery of all: the identity of a killer who is more evil and dangerous than anyone could have guessed.

Ugh, this narrator! Please rerecord with K. Early

I LOVE all of Karin Slaughter's books, and love that she uses Kathleen Early to narrate most of them. This is a rare book that is not narrated by Ms. Early and struggled to get through it.

The story itself was great, but so hard to listen to.

Sara and Jeffrey stumble (literally) upon a grave in the woods and they struggle to find leads to identify the girl and then find the suspect. The list of potentials is long, and Jeffery, Sara and Lena all have to put aside their prejudices to accept where the evidence leads them.

Change of narrator

I love this author and series, but the change of narrator threw me through a loop. The story wasn't the best of the series so I found myself getting lost with who is who.

Very disappointed in Narration

What made the experience of listening to Faithless the most enjoyable?

The story line and the characters. I have read most of the books in this series, and now that I have a background and storyline for the characters, it helps make the story enjoyable.

Would you be willing to try another one of Clarinda Ross’s performances?

No, she sounded flat. Kathleen Early did a wonderful job and when I started this audio book and heard this other narrator, I was severely disappointed. Did not want to listen to it. It was hard to get through.

Below average Slaughter poorly read

I really like Karin Slaughter books. I finished the Will Trent series and was impressed by her character development and how she intertwines the characters back story into the events at hand. She created a deep bench of GBI cops to bring in and out of books to deliver both a good story and a series that engages the reader. I look forward to the next Will Trent book.

Grant County is amateurish by comparison. Feels like she is learning to write in this series. Seems obsessed with themes of rape and child abuse and exploitation. Book after book and character after character experience these events. After a while it makes no sense. Is it for shock value? It wears off and even dulls the impact of horrors.

Faithless is the low point. Child torture and brutal murders read to us by a slow paced, sing-song, unpolished amateurish narrator. Honestly sounds like a person practicing before they get serious. Again I see the difference a narrator makes in the appreciation of a book.

Narrator

Julie

I’ve listened to several of Karin Slaughters books. This narrator was my least favorite.

Better than the last one!

The story itself was good/fair, so I was able to finish the book. The narrator was also good. I don’t see why she is getting so much negativity. Her southern accents are appropriate for the region.
I don’t think I will continue with the series however, as I always feel so irritated by most of the character’s actions. Sara and Leena may be the most annoying female characters I’ve ever encountered. And I am officially sick of the Sara/Jeffery back and forth. I find my self hopeful Jeff will tell her to take a hike. The hepatitis bit was an aggravating tool by the author to continue the discord between S&J and I found it unnecessary. Leena is a hypocrite and terrible to those who continue to care for her. She is unforgiving but in constant need of forgiveness.
