Publisher's summary

In this funny romantic series, the Shackleford sisters descend on a Regency society that doesn't know what's hit it…

When Faith Shackleford found herself in the unenviable position of having to accompany her irascible father to convalesce in the genteel seaside town of Torquay, she envisioned three months of wearying monotony.

She certainly wasn't expecting to be intrigued by the forlorn empty house situated next to their own elegant villa, especially when she discovered it belonged to a handsome captain in the Royal Navy who was currently away at sea.

Unfortunately, she never imagined that fascination might cost her her life.

Roan Carew grew up an orphan on the streets of Torquay, until he was press ganged into the Royal Navy at eleven. Through a combination of determination, shrewdness and sheer bloody mindedness he rose to the rank of Captain, but he was certainly no gentleman nor ever would be. Indeed, his purchase of Redstone House, a rundown mansion in Torquay's wealthiest district was more of an impulse than an aspiration towards respectability.

He most certainly did not expect the house to come with a thirty-year-old secret that someone was prepared to commit murder to protect.

Naturally Reverend Shackleford, who it was generally agreed would be "in if he fell in," simply had to investigate…

Perfect for fans of funny, lighthearted Regency Romances with a little bit of steam.

Two narrator’s

There are two readers alternating chapters. Makes it very difficult to follow as the characters voices change constantly

Worst narration I have ever heard.

The series of the Shackleford Sister is a typical romance in the style of The Bridgertons. Unfortunately, as the series goes on, it becomes a dull, poorly narrated, sorry story. The narration is horrible. It is so bad, it's difficult to follow the characters of the book. One more thing that bothered me is the constant repetition of phrases from the characters. I'm sorry this is not as good as the first in the series.

The best of the bunch so far!

I’m in love with this series, they’re all so good that I can’t even pick a favorite at this point. Plus I love the voice actors in these so much, they make it even more enjoyable!!

Light entertainment,

The male narrator was dreadful at doing womens’ voices. His version of Faith’s voice sounded exactly like Percy, the curate. Both were annoying. The only thing he had over the female narrator was correctly pronouncing “marquis.”
I don’t quite get the concept of having tagteam narrators. There are plenty out there who can do both male and female voices, would rather they had taken the trouble to find one.
This was a freebie on Audible, so I don’t resent the time spent listening to it. If you’re looking for a book to help while away the time while you’re driving or multitasking, this will do nicely.

Dear god, my ears

It’s an amusing story and I enjoyed the female narrator. But the second the man starts talking it’s like nails scraping down a chalkboard. Someone had to listen to his part before it was released.. so how did this version make it out of the studio. If he’s in the rest of them, I’ll be skipping the ending of the serious. I’ve already white knuckled it through the first three😭😭😭

Male narration of female voices is terrible.

Male narration of female characters is terrible. I quit listening because of this and didn’t finish the book. If the same male narrator was used on the other books, I won’t be listening to them either.

Awful male narrator, nice story

Find a new male narrator. He is absolutely awful and ruins the story. Read the book and I think it will be enjoyable.

Cute series, painful female voices from male narrator.

Unfortunate and unpleasant performance of the female voices by the male narrator, Mark Elstrob, although males voiced are good.
