Publisher's Summary

In this diverting Pride and Prejudice short story, what if Darcy had not wounded Elizabeth's pride by insulting her at the Meryton assembly and had danced with her instead?

What if Elizabeth had refused to hear a negative word formed against Darcy by his former friend, George Wickham.

What if Elizabeth's heart and her mind had been so agreeably engaged with thoughts of the master of Pemberley that by the time his visit to Kent was drawing nearer to its end, Elizabeth was indeed expecting his proposal?

This was short and cute!

Another P&P variation. hehe. This one changes the events of things. What if Darcy didn't wound Elizabeth's pride by insulting her at the Meryton assembly and actually DID dance with her instead. What if Elizabeth had refused to hear a negative word from Wickham? Things are all different except that Darcy DID convince Bingley to abandon Jane since she doesn't seem to care about him. I liked it. It was cute. It was fun watching Lizzie wait for his proposal at Kent. It was adorable seeing them be in love early on. But not all is roses and rainbows here. Darcy STILL did convince Bingley Jane doesn't have real feelings. And of course...somehow (won't say)....Elizabeth did find out about this. So yes - there was some drama. Darcy did a good job fixing everything, but I was worried about HOW he would fix it. The narrator was perfect! I think she did the last one? I can't remember, but I have heard her voice before. This was short and cute. If you need some P&P variation in your life, I recommend this. There are others in this "series" but it is just a collection and not a real "series" as we know it, so you can read out of order like me. I'll give this 5 stars.

I like this author!

P.O.Dixon does not disappoint me. I love how the story takes language and scenes and emotions I enjoy from P &P and weaves them into interesting variations. I also love the closeness of Elizabeth and Darcy. It is very romantic and sensual - just what I love about romance novels. The narration is good. This is one is on my annual listening list.

A sweet snack of a pride and prejudice variation

This quick bite of a pride and prejudice variation was a lovely. Although our couple begin smoothly enough there is tension and angst to heighten the entertainment. A fun listen. Thank you to the author and amazon for the complimentary recording.

Rewriting history can be so romantic

Expecting His Proposal reveals a wrinkle at Rosings. Elizabeth has been aware that Maybe Wickham isn’t what he portrays. Darcy overcomes his doubts and you can hear his love for Elizabeth. What a joy it is to hear their voices in parlor at Rosings, the witty colonel to the aristocratic Lady de Bourgh. A morning walk brings an unexpected revelation that sends Elizabeth to London. Mrs. Bennet ‘s voice brings her character life as only Audible can ! I want to thank P.O.Dixon for sending me this audible edition.

A Sweet Quick Read

What if Mr. Darcy hadn't snubbed Elizabeth at the Meryton assembly, but had danced with her instead? What if he had allowed her to see the man he was instead of the prideful facade he showed to the world? In this variation, Lizzy falls for Darcy and she longs for his proposal. But with Lady Catherine and Mr. Collins to interfere, happily ever after isn't guaranteed for our favorite couple.

This is a sweet quick read I listened to in one sitting. It takes place in Kent, so the Bennett family isn't featured much, but we get plenty of Lady Catherine. I loved Darcy in this version, he knew what he wanted and how to go after it, and he knew when to keep quiet! This Lizzy was a bit more wishy washy than in canon, and strings poor Darcy along. There isn't much angst, and it's a nice sweet story. The narration was great, Pearl Hewitt brings the characters to life and is always a pleasure to listen to.

A lovely Story

If you could sum up Expecting His Proposal: A Darcy and Elizabeth Short Story in three words, what would they be?

Expecting His Proposal met all my expectations once again, from reading the book to listening to the audiobook, it brought laughter, sighs and made me smile in happiness to listen to yet another master piece. Instead of making a horrible proposal in Hunsford, and Elizabeth being unaware of his feelings for her, she expects and hopes for his proposal. A little drama and anxiety enters the story when Colonel Fitzwilliam tells about Darcy helping Bingley away from Jane and their family.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think my favorite character was Darcy or Elizabeth, as Pearl made them come really alive, and brought humor and love into their personalities and make the audience feel like they were present in the story.
Though Mr. Bennet's presence through his humorous letter did make him a close runner for favorite character.

What does Pearl Hewitt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Pearl Hewitt brings humor and passion into the characters of the story, and brings them to life, which makes the story even better than if one only read the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book in one sitting, as it was funny, lovely, romantic and a delight to listen to Pearls narrating skills, with the characters of Darcy, Colonel Fitzwilliam, Charlotte, Mr. Collins, Jane, Mrs. Gardiner, Elizabeth, Mrs. Bennet and Mr. Bennet.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to further audiobooks from Pam and Pearl.

Different take on Darcy's proposal -in a good way!

Any additional comments?

I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, and Pride and Prejudice is the primary reason. I'm always hesitant to read "fan fiction" that attempts to rewrite what Miss Austen said so eloquently the first time. However, I just love narrator Pearl Hewitt. She has a spunk and sassiness in her readings that make listening very enjoyable. She enunciates with British sophistication with the best of them! So, when I saw that Pearl had a new narration of P.O. Dixon's Expecting His Proposal: A Darcy and Elizabeth Short Story, I thought why not give it a try? I was pleasantly surprised with the story and glad I listened.

The story is an alternative to the infamous first proposal. Thankfully, the whole Wickham misunderstanding is avoided in this story. Instead, the story starts off with Elizabeth's attraction to Darcy and how she looks forward to their meetings. P.O. Dixon does a very good job of weaving several of Austen's dialog passages into her own story- just placing them in a different context.

I highly recommend this short story to anyone who enjoys Jane Austen and alternative scenarios.

Lovely

Firstly I want to say that Pearl Hewitt has the most beautiful voice ever. I instantly felt in sync with this story due to her natural vocal talent. She has great voice inflections and even greater control. Absolutely lovely.

The story was also amazing. I loved the dialogue. This was a nice cozy yet powerful short story. It was explosive when Lady Katherine entered and began her rant about Darcy and Elizabeth's engagement. Elizabeth was so sweet and whenever Anne went running upstairs to her room, Elizabeth felt she needed to speak with her. Upon doing so, she learns that the two mother's had engaged Anne and Darcy while they were still in the crib.

Overall, I found this to be very good and enjoyable and I loved it. I hope to be able to listen to more of these shorts.

Expecting more

The story was truly boring, I honestly listened to the first chapter only and could not even attach my feeling to the book it almost seemed as though the writer needed to have a certain amount of words to complete a chapter because I Mr. Darcy was said many times over.
