Acerca de esta escucha

Alberich had spent most of his youth in the Karsite military schools training to be an officer. As the son of an impoverished mother, he had no other career choice open to him. And Alberich had risen in the ranks with almost unnatural speed. He developed expertise with many weapons and excelled in academic subjects with an ease that was the envy of his classmates. But in fact, the reclusive Alberich studied long and hard, pushing himself ruthlessly.

In battle, Alberich had always had a sort of "sixth sense" about things that were about to happen - when and from where the enemy would attack. Instinctively, he has this ability, for the Sunpriests kept careful watch for anyone exhibiting "demon powers" that were the hallmark of Karse's greatest enemy - the witch nation of Valdemar. Those they caught were "cleansed" in the fires of Vkandis Sunlord.

Both Alberich's skill and secret served him well in the army of Karse, and when Alberich became one of Karse's youngest captains, he received a special gift - a powerful white stallion "liberated" from the enemy. But this honor was merely a distraction, for the Sunpriests had laid a trap that even Alberich's strange foresight could not predict....

I was so glad to see this is audible finally. I do hope they release the second volume soon. the narrator was fantastic even though he pronounced (stupid spellcheck) his country different from all the other narrators.

great!

The narrator not only mangled names but even common everyday words. Still Very Good Story!

As always a great story! Terrible narration

Thoroughly enjoyed the story. Mercedes Lackey is a master of story telling and the Valdemar series is one that I have read and reread. I will continue to follow on Audible as the books are released.

Exceptional as always

This book was fun to listen to. It’s a unique concept with engaging characters. This was a good start to a good short series.

Character development was predictable and very linear. Also, the PRIMARY conflict was mostly internal to the protagonist. That was the larger lesson of the book, but it can leave you a bit hungry for more.

I’d recommend it, and will be buying the second book because I truly do want to hear what happens to the characters that I have grown fond of.

Good read/listen

Other than some names being pronounced very differently from other readers and in fact from how the name read to me when I first read them many years ago it’s a good performance. The name changes are a bit jarring to get used to but what can ya do?

Other than names being pronounced…

The morales being important along with one's character is what a good person be. what makes up your family can be more than blood line.

what's important in life.

The story is fine, but the narrator needs to work on pronunciation of collegium and Karse.

Story is fine, but, the narrator…

Aside from some disagreements on how some names might be pronounced, I enjoyed Mr. Woodson's narration of this book. His voices for the characters were distinct enough, and I got a chuckle at the parts where I was supposed to be amused, and had a tear or two well up at the sad bits. I would not hesitate to listen to a Woodson narration.
I've been enjoying Ms. Lackey's books for over twenty years, and I like this look at Queen Selenay's weapons master's background.

A very enjoyable listen

This is one of my favorite Lackey characters. The performance is great too. He has a steady and smooth pace.

I love Alberich!
