Story
Devastated by her choices, Candace Bristol is on the brink of losing it all: her mind, her hope, everything she thought she was. But from the ruins rises new purpose. An enemy has emerged and it will take everything to combat this new threat. Broken as she is, picking up the pieces and carrying on might be the hardest battle to win, but it's either fight, or lose what little she has left. Amongst the wreckage, hope still burns. The flicker of a flame kindles something within her she thought was dead. Love can break you. So, too, can it bring you back to life.

Story
A lie is a prison without bars. A captive of the enemy, Candace is forced to confront mistakes and regrets from both sides of the battlefield, including her own. Nothing is simple, and lines in the sand that were once clear have become blurred and indistinguishable. Even the unlikely love she found teeters on the edge of uncertainty. The truth is not always what it seems, and can be a prison of its own. Alone, she must decide where she stands. Alone, she must decide who to trust. When the smoke clears, what's left might not be much...but it might be enough.

Story
For Meredith Gale, ending her life seems like her only choice, and that choice is the reason she’s dangling by her fingertips from a bridge high above the freezing water of the San Francisco Bay. But someone or some thing has other plans for Meredith, and as her fingers slip from the cold steel of the bridge, a disembodied voice asks her a simple question: “Candidate 13: Do you wish to be saved?” Realizing her mistake too late, Meredith screams “Yes!” and instantly finds herself transported to a mysterious island, alongside hundreds of other Candidates like her.

Story
Sandra had been a merchant traveling through the human lands of Muriel, though that wouldn’t have been her chosen profession. What she would’ve loved to become was a crafter, producing wondrous creations with her own two hands. Unfortunately, Sandra was born with a deformity in her hands that made them appear frozen in a claw-like pose; as a result, she couldn’t grip anything with any sort of strength or dexterity, meaning that she wasn’t able craft anything but the most simple of things that required very little in the way of hand-based manipulation.

Publisher's Summary
Candace Bristol has always been obsessed with comic books, but in a world where the nightly news often mirrors these inked stories, her dreams of becoming a real superhero could actually come true. After being rescued by members of the government's AdvaNced Genetic EvoLution (ANGEL) Project four years ago, getting recruited for this elite team is all she's wanted.
Now 18, she's finally reached her goal after years of study and physical training, but little could have prepared her for life as a genetic experiment. As though coming to terms with her new ability to manipulate water isn't tough enough, she never expected to be swept off her feet by one of her fellow recruits.
With genetic alteration, the threat of physical and mental instability hangs over every superhero like a shadow. When one of their own tumbles over the edge of madness, Candace will have to choose between protecting the world, and saving the one who holds her heart.

Not what I usually read, but glad I gave it a shot
First, know that I hardly EVER leave reviews (long story, but there are reasons). Second, know that I am not usually a follower of super hero fiction. Third, I'm not a big fan of romance, either.
That being said, I'm a big proponent of indie writers, and love audiobooks, so when I won the Evolution audiobooks in a contest, I thought I would give them a try.
I'm so glad I did. This series has made me break my review embargo.
The Evolution story is a mashup of romance and superhero fiction, well written, and well narrated.
Starla Huchton, you've gained a new fan.

Excellent writing, superb narration, READ IT!
This book was a wonderful, perfect balance of romance coupled with dashes of heartbreak. From a literary standpoint, the plot development was excellent as was the character development. I was truly able to become completely engrossed in this book, and even feel like I was a part of their world. In my experience, it takes an exceptional writer to draw their readers in, in such a way that they forget the world around them. This book definitely accomplishes that. I highly reccomend both the print and audibook for this piece, as the narration is very well done. The writing is also very well done. Excellent work, you have gained a true fan.

Slow story, great execution.
Once the book got about halfway through, it was pretty exciting., but I feel like the author decided she was going to account for every bit of the ANGEL program, regardless of whether or not it was interesting.
The characters were well developed and intriguing, and the drama was compelling, but it felt like the first several chapters could have been a one to two chapter summary and still been sufficient.

Addictive and creative
overall it was a very enjoyable book. the story was pretty good but it was the lore that really sold it. I do wish she focused on the Angels a little bit more but it was good nonetheless. It wasn't the best book I've ever read but this is definitely a good one.

Absolutely Fantastic!
So, I don’t think I can say enough good things about this book. Candice loves everything about superheroes, and she can’t wait until she turns eighteen to sign up for the Angel project. When she’s accepted, it’s the thing of her dreams. Inside the experiment, she learns a lot about herself and those who were accepted alongside her. Her cousin, Gabe, introduces her to her soon to be lover, Adrian, and from there, Candice’s life is beautiful. When her powers start to come in, and she nears graduating from the program, things start to change. Evil isn’t a black and white concept. She’s about to learn just how many shades it comes it. This story hit everything that I love about a YA book, not to mention the twist of an ending. This book was filled with beautiful characterization that had been wondering if the author based them off real people. The descriptions were well done, and the worldbuilding was fantastic. Not to mention the possible love triangle and real teenage angst. It was all so brilliantly done that I was legitimately sad when the book ended. Great news though is that this is just the beginning of the series. I will definitely be continuing on to see what else poor Candy Cane will have to endure. Narration was wonderfully done giving life to each of the characters in a way that further brought the story to life. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Epic!!!
Wow! This has to be one of the most original story lines I've ever heard. I can't even begin to put in to words how magnificent of a story this is. Has a little bit of sci-fi, if you consider super heroes created by science as sci-fi; we get a tragic love story as well. I've listened to this author as a narrator before and am continually impressed with her abilities with each new performance. This is an author who doubles as a narrator and is able to give us a fabulous performance, too. Bravo!

Full of action and very original
This is the first book I have read by Starla Huchton and I'm shocked that I haven't heard about her before . This book is such an impressive start to a brand new series n I love the development of the characters and it's nice to have such a feisty female lead character who isn't scared to say exactly what she thinks .It is full of action and is bursting with originality. Whilst the first novel ends very bluntly it's a great lead into the next book that will follow highly recommended. I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review
