Publisher's summary

The modern apologetics classic that started it all is now completely revised and updated - because the truth of the Bible doesn't change, but its critics do. With the original Evidence That Demands a Verdict, best-selling author Josh McDowell gave Christian audiences the answers they needed to defend their faith against the harshest critics and skeptics.

Since that time, Evidence has remained a trusted resource for believers young and old. Bringing historical documentation and the best modern scholarship to bear on the trustworthiness of the Bible and its teachings, this extensive volume has encouraged and strengthened millions.

Now, with his son Sean McDowell, Josh McDowell has updated and expanded this classic resource for a new generation. This is a book that invites listeners to bring their doubts and doesn't shy away from the tough questions.

  • Thoroughly revised and updated from the previous edition
  • Now coauthored by Josh McDowell and Sean McDowell

AN UPDATED CLASSIC...AMAZING IN BREADTH AND DEPTH

This is now my #1 recommendation for anyone wanting to go deeper into their understanding of apologetics. Josh McDowell has been impacting the world through apologetics for nearly 60 years. And his son Sean is a popular seasoned apologist in his own right.

Josh's first edition of this classic was published nearly 50 years ago (1972). As a high school student, I devoured it in the late 70s. Aside from immersing myself in God's Word, it was probably the most instrumental thing that I did to strengthen my faith in order to weather the many storms of life that would come. As a father and son team, they have produced the most solid edition of this book yet. The book is amazing in its breadth and its depth, and yet it is written in such a way as to be accessible by a more popular audience (older high school and up). The narrator is also excellent, and makes this 43 hour audio book pleasing to listen to.

A monumental scholarly work

The sheer amount of information in this book is incredible. It is an amazing resource for anyone wanting to know if there's good evidence for the Christian faith. Feel free to skip around to whichever chapters interest you most.

Fantastically detailed

I enjoyed listening to this book but it was too detailed and comprehensive for the average reader. However, I gathered quite a bit of background information. I was thankful for that information. I would prefer a shorter less detailed synopsis. It is challenging to listen to a book that lasts well over 40 hours. Thanks for your work.

Good Source Material

This book provides evidence for the historicity of the Bible. It provides opposing arguments and summarily addresses each.

In an age where Christianity considered ‘guilty until proven innocent’, this book goes a long way to discredit the bias inherent in critics.

Comprehensive, a bit too literal, but solid

This is probably the most comprehensive and exhaustive look into the historicity of the entire Bible. It is so much more than Case for Christ and Cold Case Christianity, and a different beast than Mere Christianity or Simply Jesus. This is not the breezy repartee of Rob Bell or Pete Enns and does not ha e the classical beauty of CS Lewis. But it is a good book. I read it on Kindle a couple of years ago and had similar pros and cons. I’m a liberal progressive Christian and found some of the stuff in here just wrong or at least poorly construed. 50% of it is told straight without much bent, but another portion is too conservative and a decent amount is just far too literal. I’m a Christian but I’m also a math and science teacher (and a history major). I do not need literal proof of the OT. The entire gist rests on the resurrection and I accept that, burnt out does not mean you have to accept literal cosmic origin stories, impossible ages of human, or much of the OT “history.”
The narration is passable, hence the 3 stars. The book lends itself to reading more than listening but it’s still an ok listen.

Fantastic scholarly work

Evidence is one of the most thorough treatments in the subject of apologetics that I’ve read. It is well organized, well researched, and easy to understand.

This book is well worth the effort of diving into its content.

A Good Book

This was a good book but a better resource. I have the physical copy which is great for referencing but hard to read. The audio copy is difficult with referencing but much easier to get through and understand.

excellent book!

I agree with a one-star rating that I saw here that complained that was too much material and two dense for an audiobook for me. Yes that is true, but it is a true reading of the book and the content is amazing deep and thorough. I would recommend getting the hard copy so you can dog tag, highlight and refer back more easily but that is not a criticism of The reading of this book.
