Publisher's Summary

A special, dramatized audiobook version read by the author and Roshina Ratnam.

I know you don’t want to talk sometimes. Sometimes because it hurts and sometimes because you’re just not supposed to talk about what you want to talk about.

Sometimes it can be hard to say, “this is beautiful,” when no one else can see what you see. Or, “Here, this is where the pain is.” But some part of you knows, the truth about the words you cannot say is that they only hurt until you say them. They only hurt until the person who needs to hear them, hears them. Because we are human, and the closest we’ve ever come to showing each other who we really are, and how we love, is with words. So I’m going to try to say to you here, what I wish you’d say to me too. Please.

Better than I hoped

I've always loved this author and the peaceful quality of his spoken word pieces and tours. However this audio book felt so much more like the unexpected than I'd hoped. it had so many different aspects of creativity - the style was stunning, the layers of other sound and description were perfectly stacked and honestly this is my new favorite audiobook. there's nothing dry about it. nothing lacking or missing. and every time I listen to it I have more and more inspiration because of it.

Repeat worthy.

These words are spot on; sometimes too much so.

My soul needed this

Probably the best audible book I’ve ever come across so far. It’s a must to get this audible.

Awe inspiring

Reading any book from Iain has always moved me in ways you that you can’t even imagine. Listening to him recite the words in his way and telling you how his proceeds of writing this book, was just an experience like no other. I believe there’s a difference in reading the words for yourself and then listening to someone tell you the words that you cannot say. It’s a beautiful book and it’s his first audible, so please purchase this, you won’t regret it.

This book is a must if you’re feeling uncertain

I loved everything about this book. Everything. Honestly I’ve been feeling very uncertain and anxious lately and this book reassures you that what you’re feeling is valid and that you will get past it.

Kinda creeped out, kinda intrigued, idk really?

The story/poem is the 1st half. The 2nd half is an interview with the author, which I definitely needed because its meaning is open to so many interpretations with so many actions, feelings, and thoughts sewn together.

I’m not an English major, or great at understanding poetry, but this has been a beautifully, creepy, inspiring, confusing audiobook. I’ll definitely be listening to it again now that I’ve heard the authors interview.

Moving

I loved every part of this- the book itself is beautifully written and the two person reading is emotional and raw. The whole thing was great.

This book is everything

It’s every thing ur thinking, or once thought or deeply feeling and telling you it’s okay. You’re okay. You’re not alone. It’s sad, honest and joyful all in one. I felt every word.

This makes me happy to listen to

I've always enjoyed Ian S. Thomas's work and have one of his earlier collections. It feels as though he is speaking to you directly, in a very personal way. I have to be in the right mindset to really appreciate this, but when I am it is perfect. It is forgiving and uplifting and caring and it makes me feel good.

Best contemporary author

Every word you cannot say...
I haven't quite finished this book just yet, but I've been following the author for a long time. His words make me think...and feel...and acknowledge my thoughts and feelings more conscientiously. By being so vulnerable with the reader, he makes me be okay with being vulnerable myself, with my own people.
Also, since English is my second language, I find his sophisticated vocabulary of a lot of help to improve my own.
He's the best contemporary writer I can relate to and connect with.
Thank you Iain. Please keep doing what you're doing-there are people in the world who may not communicate with you directly, but rather watch from the distance and listen to your books in the darkness of the night. And your art means a lot to them.
