Publisher's Summary

'No one lives for ever. But the truth survives us all.' Kate Murray is deeply troubled. In front of her lies a dead man, a stranger who only minutes before had approached her wanting to tell her about a mystery, a long-forgotten murder.

The crime was old, he'd told her, but still deserving of justice. Soon Kate is caught up in a dangerous whirlwind of events that takes her back into her grandmother's mysterious war-time past and across the Atlantic as she tries to retrace the dead man's footsteps.

Finding out the truth is not so simple, however, as only a few people are still alive who know the story - and Kate soon realises that her questions are putting their lives in danger. Stalked by an unknown and sinister enemy, she must use her tough journalistic instinct to find the answers from the past - before she has to say goodbye to her future.

The story drew me in

I couldn't stop listening. I found the story fascinating and the characters real and likeable. I especially enjoyed the way older characters in the book were portrayed, as people with a rich back story.
I am a fan of mysteries, and this one drew me in completely.
I must also mention the narrator. I saw two other reviews that rated the narrator very negatively. Personally, Katherine Kellgren is my favourite narrator, and I think she is at her best here. Yes, she puts on accents, but she is excellent at it. Every voice is distinct, and I never felt that it was over the top, put on, or theatrical

Fabulous Story

This book of lost love and espionage was extremely well written.
At first I was unsure about the Narrator's voice however I think she did extremely well to sound different for all the characters.

Great book, spoilt by the performance of the narrator

Enjoyable story but ruined by the harsh and annoying voice of the narrator, I had to keep turning it off as I couldn't stand the noise she made especially when she got to an exciting bit. Awful, and such a shame

Totally Spoilt by the Narrator

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have listened to a number of Susanna Kearsley's books & always enjoyed them but this one I gave up with after an hour due to the narration.

Has Every Secret Thing put you off other books in this genre?

Depends on who is the narrator. I could not listen to any books narrated by Katherine Kelligren.

What didn’t you like about Katherine Kellgren’s performance?

The voice, the pacing & the dreadful, pretentious English accents totally ruined what may have been a good listen.

Any additional comments?

Unfortunately the narrator was so bad that I could not continue to listen to this book. I can't therefore comment on whether this is a good story or not hence I have had to give a one star review across all categories.
