Publisher's Summary

The swooning Victorian ladies and the 1950s housewives genuinely needed to be liberated. That much is indisputable. So, First-Wave feminists held rallies for women's suffrage. Second-Wave feminists marched for prohibition, jobs, and abortion. Today, Third-Wave feminists stand firmly for nobody's quite sure what. But modern women - who use psychotherapeutic antidepressants at a rate never before seen in history - need liberating now more than ever. The truth is, feminists don't know what liberation is. They have led us into a very boring dead end.

Eve in Exile sets aside all stereotypes of mid-century housewives, of China-doll femininity, of Victorians fainting, of women not allowed to think for themselves or talk to the men about anything interesting or important. It dismisses the pencil-skirted and stiletto-heeled executives of TV, the outspoken feminists freed from all that hinders them, the brave career women in charge of their own destinies. Once those fictionalized stereotypes are out of the way - whether they're things that make you gag or things you think look pretty fun - Christians can focus on real women. What did God make real women for?

Funny, brilliant, and inspiring!

Best book I've ever read on the condition of the modern womens moment. With humour, courageous honesty, and researched facts, Merkle lays out the historical timeline of the 3 main waves of feminism and how it has subtly invaded our Christian worldview. Feminists have won every battle for which they've fought and screamed, yet they are still miserable and angry. They still want to fight for something, but they've lost their purpose. Why is this? After decades of Christian woman being torn down for wanting to follow our God-given nature, she rebuilds and strengthens our glory-filled calling that emulates the relationship Jesus has with the Father. I am an English major, and I LOVE the way she writes! She builds on each argument with such logic and concise language. Each word she chooses is "spot on!"

Learned so much!

My greatest desire is to be exactly who God has called me to be....as a woman, wife and mother. This book not only taught me about feminism, but also inspired me to step up and do my part in this world. It also encouraged me to remember that the tasks I do on a daily basis are glorious tasks. Loved this entire book!!

Just What I Needed

A Biblical explanation why modern (and not so modern) models of femininity haven't hit the mark, and what a woman truly is and what role she vitally fills in this world and her own family. I loved it.

Required reading for Christian women!

Excellent and timely read by Rebekah Merkle. Loved hearing the book in her own voice. The message she shares here is comprehensive in its coverage of feminism which is so helpful in understanding our current landscape. Many times while listening her words resonated with my spirit. I believe if heard with a humble, submitted heart to God’s word, every reader will be corrected, encouraged, and inspired to embody God’s truth in her everyday circumstances. Merkle sets forth a vision for how we as women truly can better the world if we are willing to lay aside earthly wisdom and wholeheartedly receive God’s wisdom and ways as best. I know I will be returning to this book again and again.

Mandatory in my library & for re-listening

Love you and thank you so much for your amazing Hospitality last night!!

This book is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read or listened to! In “Eve in Exile”, Rebekah Merkle very poetically, eloquently and powerfully speaks about women’s roles in history and what it looks like to walk out biblical femininity today. Even though so much you may already do, it is just her AMAZING way of expressing and using parables to understand our thought processes and where they come from. In short, I think every Christian woman would love and be challenged by Rebekah’s book!!
