Publisher's summary

Anna Greer is a quiet microbiologist with her feet planted firmly in reality. Her life gets turned upside down when she finally meets her elusive employer, Gareth Macgregor. Gareth is mysterious, sexy, powerful…and a vampire. Soon she's drawn into a world she only thought was mythical, creatures and beings that existed only in nightmares that turn out to be very real. Anna and Gareth are drawn together in a fight for their lives, and Anna finds that there is a part of her that has lain dormant since her childhood - a power that could save them, or mark them for death. Gareth's powerful enemy would stop them from finding what Gareth has been trying to find for centuries - a cure for vampirism and a love that transcends time.

Surprisingly good.

I was expecting generic plot lines and very little originality but I'm happy to say the story kept me entertained. I didn't look for every opportunity to listen to the book but I did find it difficult to put down at times. The author did a good job of keeping me interested. It isn't a 5 star book but I think it is worth looking into.

So bad, didn't even finish it

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

(This my husband's account, he bought the book for me. So the opinions are mine, not his.)The narrator had very few changes in her voice for the characters, it's like she was just reading it straight out of the book. Having heard very good narrators, when you listen to one that is just "phoning it in" it's such as disappointment.

What could Teresa Federici have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Unfortunately, this author seems to be trying to make this into a "Discovery of Witches" which has already been done, and done well.

Would you be willing to try another one of Hollie Jackson’s performances?

No.

Frustrating....

I am on chapter 10 and I am so frustrated, the author just goes on and on and on. It's basically a very slow twilight. I just want the author to get on with it already. The main character just spends her time thinking about this guy and after speaking to him a 2 or 3 times she is in love with him? If it wasn't free on the romance package I would have stopped listening long ago. But I don't think I will continue with the story it's getting boring at this point. If you have a lot of patience try it, if not, don't bother.
