The book discusses various genres from supernatural to ecological horror. Slashers. Body horror. Much of it is correct, and many of the films discussed, such as “The Exorcist” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” are excellent.
However, how can you take a book seriously, when purporting to discuss the impact of 70's horror, and it mentions “Jaws” once? And only in passing. “Jaws” had such a cultural impact that to exclude it from a list of 25 must see horror films is laughable. The same could be said for “Alien”, which is never mentioned until it is included on the must see list (which has dubious rankings and inclusions/exclustions). Another notable omission is "Duel", which is the godfather of road/chase movies, inspiring such films as "Joy Ride" and "Breakdown".
When a book is praising films like "The Brood" and "Shivers", and not talking about such landmark films as "Jaws" and "Alien", one is probably better off not wasting an hour of their time listening to it. You're welcome.
