Her enemy was the only one she could trust...

Jacqueline Renold, an English born lady is the sister to the king's executioner. In love with one man and forced to marry another, she feels no different than the prisoners below in the dungeons. Knowing her actions are treason, she flees to Scotland with a bounty on her head...

Ewan, the Laird's cousin is second in command of their army. Third in line to the MacKinnon Clan, he has no home or land of his own, only the sword on his back. Through his skill as a warrior, he seeks out to find his place in the world. Ewan travels south with William Wallace to help free those who the English have been taken captive. But when duty and honor leads Ewan to help an English lass in grave danger, the last thing he expects is to lose his heart to his enemy.

A sweet escape!

April Holthaus has again written a huge tale into a short book and she has done it with real flair! With a exciting plot, vibrant surroundings and strong vivacious individuals this story grabs your attention at the beginning and holds it until the very end. The originality and inspiration that this story is built on virtually shines through. No wishy-washy characters either.
If you're a fan of Medieval Scotland Romances then you will not be disappointed.

NARRATOR: Unfortunately the narrator was the one distinctly negative aspect of this book. Bill Dick has not got a large repetoire of voices and struggles to even be able to hint at a female voice. He was uncomfortable to listen to. Only the excitement and interest in this novella kept him from ruining the book.

CREDITWORTHY? Indeed! (but be sure to listen to the snippet to be sure that you can deal with the narrator's performance. )

HEAT FACTOR: Chemistry definitely , heat not so much. A brief sex scene fitting the moment in the story.

Loved it!

Where does Escape To The Highlands rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rate it to a four.

What other book might you compare Escape To The Highlands to and why?

All the Highland books and it is many

Which character – as performed by Bill Dick – was your favorite?

The Hero

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Where he protected her with his life.

Any additional comments?

Bill needs to work on his voice of all of the woman characters. His voice is to low and I had a wee bit of a problem keeping the female characters separate. Other that that he has a wonderful Scottish accent.

Fantastic!

Would you listen to Escape To The Highlands again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to it again, the narrator did a very good job with the character's voices!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jacqueline because she was a feisty and stubborn woman!

Have you listened to any of Bill Dick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this is the first time I hear his voice! Job well done!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I love to listen to it by chapters!

Any additional comments?

I loved her first book THE HONOR OF A HIGHLANDER from the MacKinnon Clan series. Here is the story of Jacqueline Renold, an English born lady who is the sister to the king's executioner and Ewan, the Laird's cousin is second in command of their army. Jacqueline is forced to marry a man she does not love, and being a feisty and stubborn woman, she commits an act of treason and flees away to the Highlands, because she only wants her freedom. En route, she is rescued by Ewan, a warrior who is on a mission to free Scottish prisoners held captive by the English.

Wow! What a ride!!!!

This book was so fun! The suspense and intrigue were palatable! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! April’s choice of words to describe every situation was perfect. This is a must-read/listen! You will not regret it!!!

So-so

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Love at first sight? You would have to accept it verbatim. The characters's story was way under developed as well as the story line. I felt the writer was bored with the story and moved it along the simplest way possible.
