Publisher's summary

This is what happened: I met him at the candy store. He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you, this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss' wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I've been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men with little finesse who thought what was between their legs made up for what they lacked between their ears. Sometimes I went home with them anyway, just because it felt good to want and be wanted, even if it was mostly fake. The problem with wanting is that it's like pouring water into a vase full of stones. It fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else.

I don't apologize for who I am or what I've done in or out of bed. I have my job, my house, and my life, and for a long time I haven't wanted anything else. Until Dan. Until now.

Good Story.. Bad narrartor

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The Story line was good but its hard to get over the narrartor voice for men. She makes them sound like 14 year old surfers. Really took away from the book .

Would you be willing to try another one of Elenna Stauffer’s performances?

NO!!!

This broke me and put me back together

4 stars!

There aren’t trigger warning for this book that I know of, but I would look into it if you have sensitive subjects you can’t read about. (Suicide, self harm, mention of pedophilia, sexual assault, rape, homophobia, incest, death, alcoholism, ect) these are some of the most prominent that I can list off the top of my head.

It’s been so long since I’ve read a Megan Hart book and I forgot how easy they are to get immersed in. This was such a heavy book, and while breaking you it also helps to make you feel whole again by the end.

Erotica with a dark and depressing subplot

Think chick lit meets erotica with a small sprinkle of romance. This is not a lighthearted “fun and frolic” romance story, but a deeply erotic story laced with a dark and even depressing sub plot. The story is told strictly through the eyes of El, our heroine. Therefore, she is the only person we really delve deep into knowing. El is an emotionally messed up individual who has a great fear of intimacy. Sex is one thing, but true intimacy is quite another. At times, you will not like El. Guaranteed. But you will care for her and wish her the best. Her history will explain all, which is part of the dark and depressing subplot. Dan, our hero, is a great guy. He is a perfect match for a person who has such emotional issues, and they enjoy the same level of sexual pleasures -- including threesomes. (Tastefully done I might add.) He is willing to give El the emotional space she requests, but over time his love for her challenges them both to re-look at their relationship.

It is an odd mix of stories. The main story is the erotic adventures of El and Dan, but the subplot includes, among other things, sexual abuse. These stories go together like toothpaste and orange juice. Individually I can handle these stories, but woven together it leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. It's not a bad book, but if you are looking for a fun feel good book then be warned there are darker and more depressing subplots that may kill the buzz.

Shocking Progression

This book started, as expected, with hardcore sex. What shocked me was its progression to a worthwhile catholic novel. It actually becomes a book about devil wrestling and personal growth, a salvation. I am shocked at the mixing of raunch and theology, but it worked for me.

Megan Hart...

Ms. Hart is one of the few writers I have found with the ability to take a story that I probably would have found repulsive with another writer. She has the ability to intrigue you passed the parts you may find somewhat distasteful. But I have to say she handles the sex classier than any I have listened to...I can't figure out exactly what the difference is. But she doesn't repulse me. I wanted to know the underlying story. I wanted to know about the other characters involved. I give all he credit to Ms. Hart. I appreciated the narrator for the main character but didn't care for this voice for the men. That will be personal to you, as all narration is. It was not a deal breaker for me.

Good story, terrible "male" voice

I liked the story but wish she would have gotten Sebastian York or someone similar to read the guy's part. The male voice in this story really creeps me out. It's a very sleazy, whispery, totally unsexy voice that kind of ruined the whole thing for me.

Good, steady listen

A good listen...no big twists and turns, just a steady account of a real life situation than man find themselves in. I surely was not disappointed.

HOT & STEAMY

this book was great, just enough sex and she really experienced, which i enjoyed but she kept it tasteful for the most part.

Not just another erotic book!

This book is far from just another erotic book! Megan Hart takes the readers on an emotional journey of self discovery and through the road to forgiveness with her main character of Elle (also finished in the next book Broken). It's so easy to find Elle cold and dislike her in the beginning, but as the book continues you can almost feel her pain and insecurity as she faces her past and tries to move forward. Megan Hart is one of the few erotic authors who can weave a story with not only fully developed characters but also original plots that are intense and emotional. Well worth the read, you won't feel sorry!

Side note: I will say the performer on this particular book is not the best and does seem to have issues with some of the male voices - nothing horrible but definitely not one of the best I've heard.

OK storyline

Any additional comments?

The male voice for the main male character was awful, she made him sound like a dirty old man. I could hardly get over it. I liked the story, maybe this one would be better to read to self.
