Publisher's summary

Danika hasn't had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier. One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given. She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise.

So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine? For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard, and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating. Bad Things is about Tristan and Danika, and their train wreck of a love story. This series can be read as a standalone, or with the Up in the Air trilogy. This audiobook is intended for ages 18 and up.

TRISTAN & DANIKA-beautiful, messy, heart-wrenching

OMG, this book is not just a read/listen that you pick up and forget easily….it's a journey… it's an experience. After being exposed to Tristan and Danika in "Grounded," from the Up In The Air series, I was intrigued. I knew their story had heart-break and devastation so I have waited until the release of all 3 books in their trilogy and a free weekend to explore and experience their love affair.

Let me say that this book is exquisitely done. R.K. Lilley is brilliant as she has created these characters who are vivid, they invoke raw emotion, and wonder, as well as being so likable. In fact, you want the best for them--for both Tristan and Danika as well as every person who touches their lives. I loved seeing James Cavendish (before he met Bianca, the love of his life), and Frankie…..Oh sweet Frankie!!! She is such a wonderful friend to both Tristan and Danika! She really made a difference so many times!

When you start this book, immediately, you know Lilley has give something to readers that goes beyond just another insatiable couple---She's give us a jewel with Tristan and Danika. This series is devastating and I felt that from the onset. This book will make you fall in love and believe in Tristan and Danika. Even though the title is "Bad Things" the reason you hold on, as a reader, is because of all of the good things that meld together as Tristan and Danika are so incredible as a pair. Danika is sassy, sweet, she's a survivor and she is so loving. She's also a student, a nanny, and a dancer. Tristan is kind of lost. He's a club promoter and singer for a band. Yet, even somewhat bereft, Danika awakens something beautiful in him. Her affections, combined with their electric chemistry, does something to Tristan. You can see it, you can feel it. However, Tristan is wrestling with so many demons that serve as heavy weights to his complete commitment to Danika. However, Tristan does grow a lot in this book. He grows in his ability to admit the strength of his feelings for Danika, which allows him to commit to her. There are so many fun moments between the pair, and their dialogue is awesome! In the sex department, they smolder, as they love each over in flames.

But, something's just not right…there is tragedy in this book, and from what I understand it's only the beginning. But even if there wasn't tragedy, there are other land minds that are imbedded deep inside Tristan, and we have only begun to see how his relationship with Danika will unravel and hit "rock bottom" before it plows forward in a much deserved HEA. I haven't even gone through the whole Tristan and Danika experience, but already I KNOW they deserve a beautiful HEA. I wish I could skip book 2 and just jump over to book 3, so I could watch this couple make it home together….oh well…the journey is 1/3 over!

Narrators: Sarah Naughton is freaken AMAZING!!! She did such a wonderful job in her performance. She really brought these characters to life! Chris Ruen narrated during the intermittent Tristan POV's that are inserted here and there, and his performance was delicious! This was one superb audiobook experience!

Gosh who could resist? Not me !!

Any additional comments?

Danika is a stunning 21 and works as a nanny while studying. She has been having bad fulfilling relationships and after knowing her past I did feel sorry for her, though at times I felt like kicking her ass…. Tristan, a lead singer in rock group, he cooks, runs errands and please help me, but he is so good with his fingers and mouth that i was even jealous of Danika at times - and don’t get me started with this body muscles *drools*... Tristan comes to stay over at Danika’s place as his apartment was not ready for him to move into yet... and this Hot Happy and Sad roller-coaster ride of a story begins...

I loved his book and loved Tristan's foul sexy mind and mouth... "You feel so good. So fucking tight, I’ll let you rest after this time, but don’t be surprised when you wake up with my dick inside of you sometime in the night" Gosh who could resist? Not me !!

RIVETING...... SIMPLY RIVETING

As the beautiful crazy love story slowly unfolds you get to learn of Tristan and Danika's passions, flaws, insecurities, needs, the family and friends around them and the train-wreck of a love they have for each other. You're swept away in their flirtations and sizzling sexual chemistry as handsome and charismatic Tristan's fun, loveable and caring personality, together with his wild side, warms, melts and enlivens Danika's plain life. However, deep down, you get the sense that things aren't going to run smoothly for charming bad boy Tristan and good-girl Danika and eventually tragedy strikes and the lovers are caught up with devastating heartbreaking consequences. But, like a moth to a flame, there's no way of stopping the lethal attraction.

I couldn't stop listening as their witty banter and instant attraction played out into a very emotional romance but as it picked up so too did the tension, jealousy, anger, angst and sexual need for each other as it escalated into an all consuming love. It's definitely a "just one more chapter" listen until light seeped into my bedroom and I knew it was going to be another 3 hours night for me.

Worth a credit? It captivates you, engulfs you and leaves you DESPERATE simply DESPERATE for the next instalment of this well-written love story and you just know that it's going to be epic. A sexy, swoon/drool-worthy, tattooed lead singer in a rock band who has dimples and a troubled past... well I would have given it 10 stars and I would have used 2 credits so YES this one's very very very credit-worthy.

Tristan..grrr!

I keep going back and forth on how I feel about this book. Don't get me wrong it was amazing and R.K. Lilley is a wonderful author. However, I lost all respect for Tristan in this and I am not sure if he is redeemable in my eyes. To me, actions speak louder than words and he consistently puts Danika as his second option throughout the entire book. I enjoyed their relationship in the beginning, but half way through I wanted Danika to get out of it because it was only bringing her down. I absolutely loved Frankie in this book; she is hilarious and a great side character.

***MILD SPOILER***
Anytime they were intimate after she finds out he slept with a gazillion women while on their `break' I felt...I don't know...dirty reading their sex scenes. I think she deserved a better person and it was hard to once again read about the guy being a huge slut, but yet the girl just sits around waiting for him. I think it bothered me so much because she tells him she trusts him while having sex, which is huge because of her past. Then he goes sleeping around, which tells me he didn't care at all that she gave him that trust (maybe I am being too hard on him, but it really troubled me). I disliked how Tristan was a complete hypocrite; he could go sleep with whomever he wanted, but she couldn't even text or hug a guy without him going crazy.
**END SPOILER***

I am not sure how many books are in this series, or if it will extend beyond what we know of them from the Up in the Air series, but if it does, I think I will want Danika to end up with someone else. The title is very apt, Bad Things happen when they are together. Interested in finding out how she damages her ankle/leg in the upcoming books.

This book is a bad thing

So tired of authors who write 95% sex and 5% story. I suspect that after the entire trilogy is released on Audible, we'll get to realize that the three books could have been stripped of a huge amount of gratuitous sexual content and end of being one fairly decent story.

Other than that, the narrators were really bad. Just all wrong for these characters.

UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!!!!

I was hooked from word one! BAD THINGS was delicious. Hot, hot, and more hot, plus the witty banter and sarcasm made me laugh out loud, and in equal measure I was literally about to break down crying in certain scenes. An emotional roller coaster to say the very least. I'm officially hooked on R.K. Lilley!

Tristan and Danika, wow, these two.... combustible. Get this book, it's worth it.

Uncertain how I feel

Audiobook: Narrators – Sarah Naughton & Chris Ruen
This narration was pretty good. Nothing about it bothered me, which is always a win, but nothing stood out and made it outstanding either. I would re-listen to both of these narrators.

While this is a favorite of some readers, I’m left uncertain exactly how I feel about it. On one hand, I loved the possessiveness Tristan displays for Danika. However, I despised the double standard he exhibited. He went berserk over any other man that he even thought would make a move on her but he had no problem flirting with his ex and couldn’t understand why she didn’t see that it was innocent. And that’s just a tiny nugget of his off balance thinking. I don’t want to spoiler it completely. He also made decisions that just ticked me the heck off. As for Danika, I thought she was way too forgiving just because of his smile. So yeah, I may be turning into that reader that can’t handle the inequality between an “alpha” hero and the heroine.

I’ve started book two but even after the opening I’m thinking I’m in for an angst fest. Sigh.

Mostly Heroine POV with a few from Hero

NICE FOLLOWUP TO IN FLIGHT SERIES

Any additional comments?

In my opinion, this series is a nice follow-up to the In Flight series, but it is just that -- a follow-up. Without the threads of curiosity spun in the first series, I'm not sure I would like this series very much. It's a bit slow moving - repeating common themes over and over. I kept wanting to fast forward to get to the part mentioned in the In Flight series and to the good parts I was hoping would come. Additionally, the narration was a bit off. Sarah Naughton's impression of Tristan's voice and intonation was weird to me. She made him seem almost too young and careless when he was, in fact, a very intense character. Perhaps it would have been better if Lilley would have kept the same narrator for all books which shared characters.

A tumultuous relationship that hopefully improves

I listened to the audio version of this, having read the Up in the Air series I was familiar with Tristan & Danika. I am guilty of stopping and starting with audio books which can make the ‘read’ a bit disjointed at times and that was the case with this book.

Tristan and Danika seem to have an instant connection when they first meet. A firm friendship between them quickly develops. Danika is a relationship sort of girl and Tristan is more a casual fling kind of guy. They firmly agree that anything between them would be a bad idea.

However, their bodies seem to be leading the way and eventually they do cross the imaginary line they set each other. This is the beginning of a passionate, sexually charged relationship between them. However, it is not a healthy one. Tristan’s behaviour did not endear him to me. I found him to be a bit of a douche. He was violent, jealous & possessive and not in the sexy alpha male sense.

I’m hoping he can redeem himself in the rest of this series.
