Publisher's summary

Beware, beware, the beast of Lozère!

Who lurks in your dreams, and knows how to scare

You will freeze at the sight of strange dancing at night

And the dead, in their coffins, still stare.

A menacing wolf is terrorizing the village of Lozère. A beautiful young girl has lost her family and her best friend to this nightmare when Sparrow shows up with his characteristic curiosity. But all is not as it seems in this cold mountain village, where the beasts are like men and the men are like beasts.

Sparrow came to Lozère to tell stories, but he stayed for the stories Lozère told him...

Delightful, suspenseful, and witty

Overall impression: A story should be, first and foremost, an engaging experience, and Episodic Sleep Disorders does not fail to deliver. Even if I had not read any of the character’s other escapades, this story can stand alone as an excellent tale that is rich with suspense, intriguing characters, and a protagonist who is witty and cunning. It’s like stepping into a popular folktale - one gets drawn in with immediate ease and eagerness to have the story unfold.

Story quality: The story quickly draws you in with hints of the macabre, promises of mystery, and a setting that slowly winds around your subconscious until you can picture, smell, and feel the eerie little town without even realizing that you’re doing so. While it is very different than the first story, the change of tone does not at all detract from the identity, wit, charm, and appeal of the character Sparrow. It is more like the character found his way into one of his own tales and the result is truly delightful.

Recording and narration quality: The performance quality is great and it is quite easy to listen to the narration. So many times, when an author reads their own work, I find myself wanting to shut off the recording every so often because of their inherent voice quality or because they are trying too hard. Fortunately, the author has a voice that is naturally pleasant to listen to, and I quickly got lost in the story. I tend to consciously assess voice work at the start of any audio book, but in this case I quit actively focusing on it quite early in the story. There was one instance, however, where the sound effects overpowered the volume of the narration. While it did make it more difficult to hear that part of the story, it was short lived and did not detract much from the overall experience.

Final words: My hats off to the author for both this story and the performance! You have continued to draw me in to this character’s world. I continue to think of Sparrow as a believable and real person living in a parallel universe, as I do with any of the truly great fictional characters that I love. I can’t wait to read what happens next.

Professionally performed and produced

I gotta say, this narrator has a perfect radio voice. His characters have distinct voices and he pronounces even the most difficult passages with ease.

Loved the story too! Does this author have any more audio books? Sparrow is sooo chill! I want to hear more from this storyteller!

Incredibly Engaging

This was such a fun listen! The narrator/author does a wonderful job of brining this world to life. With the addition of the sound effects, and music, I felt like I was following right along side Sparrow.

I would highly recommend this for a creepy and engaging mystery.

very interesting and thought provoking tale, read in segments, to entice the imagination! the sound effects reminded me of when I was a boy, listening to radio dramas.

Left me wanting MORE!!

What can I say? This was an intriguing story, and I loved the radio-episode style of the audiobook, but just when I got hooked on it, IT ENDED! The entire story was less than three hours.

Probably some of the best three hours I've ever listened to, though. I'm an occasional member of some storytelling circles and clubs, and this author/narrator has some great potential, in my opinion.

The main character visits a strange village in the middle of winter, and each episode describes a new eerie situation. I listened to a few episodes every night as I was getting ready for bed, instead of trying to draw it out by listening to just one episode each night. Because of that, the story was over much too soon.

Four stars just because it's too short. Don't let that stop you from trying it out, though. You don't want to miss this one.

Interesting interpretation of historic events

It was a great take on the Strasbourg Dancing Epidemic. Great characters, interesting twist, vivid imagery!

Like all great stories: too short!

Someone recommended this audiobook in a Facebook group, and I decided to give it a chance. I ended up listening straight through, from start to finish!
This story features a small traveler named Sparrow, who is visiting a spooky village called Lozair (not sure how to spell this). He arrives during a funeral when they are burying a girl with her eyes wide open, and the story only gets spookier from there!

I loved the vivid imagery, the connection to history and folklore (yes, I recognized several names from old fairy tales). Sparrow is clever and witty, yet doomed to travel in loneliness, it would appear.

I'm intrigued to read more from this author and especially about this main character. Unfortunately, it seems like this is his only audiobook. I'll have to get the rest of his books on Kindle.
