I remember having to do the "get the spiders off me" thing with grandma. I guess it sounds strange to other people that hearing it in the story made me cry a little from missing her. not something likely to come up in casual conversation. imagine instead of telling someone you sure miss grannies cookies you tear up thinking about something closer to the Indiana Jones movie where he gets spiders all over him. that's the contextual viewpoint that people living with mental illness have. people have become nervous telling me they have to open the door twice or something. then I tell them about the snakes under grannies bed and explain i can deal with double the action on doors. I think at least one person thought i was lying, but as I cared just as much about their belief as their door problems (not literally, its an example of compulsion etc) i didn't feel like expending the effort in reassuring them. they were probably paranoid too or something and it would be wasted.

get them off me
