Part 3

Even though these audio sessions are short they are definitely worth listening to. Everyone can benefit from learning tips on how to improve our communication and relationship skills. This session is about a loving MF committed couple who are deeply emotionally affected by their childhoods and have adapted a unique way to meet some of their emotional needs.

Couple was insufferable

The required roleplaying by Scott as 'Jean-Claude', with no compromise from his wife on seemingly any front, begat a really disappointing exploration with this couple. 'Jacqueline' came across as such a boring narcissist cliché. What about what Scott wants? Felt like Zero exploration of that.

Another good one

She just really gets to the heart of things. It's real to them, no matter how anyone else sees it. A good therapist MUST suspend all opinion and judgement initially. Ester is just so amazing at building trust and creating the safe and non judgemental mental space to really get movement, clarity, and/or direction. It's just amazing to see, because even many therapist fall short here and medicate the problem or simply try to write the story for them, giving them something else to swallow and add to their problems.

Fucking AMAZING

I absolutely loved this. So poetic and profound. About to buy her book. I found out about her from her Ted Talk and Dan Savages podcast, Savage Lovecast.

So incredible

As a survivor I found this episode so moving and full of hope. If I wasn’t sold on this podcast before—this episode did me end. Esther Perel is amazing and this couple is so raw and hurt but so beautiful too. Listen to this episode—and then listen to all of them.

Role play into my arms

Esther does a beautiful job of being creative, providing an alternate narrative that actually is woven beautifully into the fullness of this couple.

Tres interessant!

He can be a bad boy when he lets Jean Claude inhabit his body and mind. But will she accept that Jean Claude is actually part of her husband? This session was a revelation. It maid me take a step back and question what stories have I convinced my self of about what is possible for me? Thank you for bearing your souls so that I could learn from it Jean Claude and Jaqueline!

Authentic, accessible, intimate

This series is very affirming of my own experience - of the multiple layers and subconscious triggers and motivations and dysfunctions.

Being 'present' at these consultations - listening to Perel's skill and experience at work - is a privilege, and a valued opportunity to gain a little understanding of what might be going on inside myself.

Writing the same review of the whole set of these

So I'm not going to review each of these individually. They're all a great listen and I can't recommend one over the others. If you're in a place in your relationship where you're not happy and looking for steps you could take these are a great place to start. Esther does one-off sessions with these people and helps these see what is going on, and what they can do to change things. You don't have to be going through the exact same scenario to see some common threads, and find bits and pieces that will be helpful to you.

I'm going to leave the same review for each of these as you should really listen to all of them, rather than trying to pick and choose which you might find relevant.

Esther opens new windows for the listener as well.

Great story and approach. It helps others to see their own problems with a different glass.

Step outside yourself

I'm finding these sessions very interesting, so personal and yet you are drawn in with them wanting to help. Ester is the master at guiding the couples towards a workable solution.
