Publisher's summary

[Contains explicit content] University student Anna Winslow, has gone missing. The circumstances of her disappearance are far from ordinary, a fact that only fellow student Melissa Lopez appears to appreciate. Motivated by an unexplained and disturbing voicemail message from Anna, on the night of her disappearance, Melissa's curiosity quickly turns into a deeper investigation, an obsession even, which she chronicles as a regular podcast — the very podcast you are about to listen to. She quickly discovers that Anna was a loner, with hearing difficulties and had disappeared for a week earlier in the year, only to return with perfect hearing, but with increasingly unstable behaviour.

As Melissa finishes the first episode of her podcast, a shocking twist in the investigation takes us deeper into the mystery.

So Bad

Really really wanted to like it. The story is so far reaching and the performances are "put on" and stiff.

I have never rolled my eyes so much while listening to a podcast or book.

Ouch!

Story seemed interesting enough, but the ‘acting’ was contrived. Scenes were overacted and dialogue was unbelievable. Don’t waste your time with this pile of rubbish.

Should have come with a warning.......awful.

I felt lost, but I decided to tough it out. I believe my ears may be damaged.

Don't waste your time

This sounds like a fourteen-year-old high school girl, wanted to create a true crime garage. I'm going to finish hearing the rest of the episodes just to see how bad this gets, but I'm grinding my teeth already.

OMG... Why audible? Why?

OK. Immediately I appreciate that they're trying a new thing here. Which is great. Sometimes it works... and sometimes it doesn't. It so beyond doesn't here. Like, I'd be embarrassed to have my name on this. I know it sounds harsh, but I couldn't help but think this was going to turn into the equivalent of a mockumentary. To begin with... it sounds like it's being read from a piece of paper. At no point do "Melissa's" thoughts come off as natural or in the moment. It's painful how hard it seems she's trying. Not that the "script" is much to work with. I think the reason people appreciate podcasts is that they don't rush the subject matter. It's why the book is always better than the movie. Most stories are better when you can appreciate each major player for who they are. This is like calling a story on the back of a cereal box a novel. The narrator isn't likeable. People just amazingly deciding to talk to her... it's a joke. She's not Oprah. I'm going to bite the bullet and listen to the rest of these just to justify posting this. I know the quality of art is subjective, but sometimes it can be universally agreed upon. I think I'd get too frustrated to finish if I comment on every episode... so I'm only going to review this one and the last one. Fingers crossed a miracle happens and it gets better. If so, I will happily admit that this post was a tad presumptuous and b*tchy. I think I've only ever written like two other reviews but this audiobook really was a waste of time.

Too scripted and fake

I wish this was performed better because the story was interesting but I can't stand how fake it sounds. Everything feels so scripted and set up. I got through 3 chapters but I'm moving on to something else now.

Awful audio, expect better!

Where to start?
Story wise it was weak. After listening to Stephen King and Dean Koontz I’ve come to expect a certain level of brilliance in the books I listen to, this book was terribly lacking! Especially annoying was that it was broken into 8 episodes, short little 20-30 minute episodes that required a 2 minute recap!

The production was shoddy and annoying, exclusive to Audio Books in no way means quality. Why did Audio Books choose to break up this short 3.5 book into 8 parts and NOY allow them to play back to back? Instead, I had to stop what I was doing and manually start the next episode. Not cool.

The story was week, production was poorly done and the story seem tune for a middle school intellectual it it weren’t for the subject matter (murder/suicide).

Audio Books needs to aim higher with their free material.

Building backstory

This episode is pretty decent, its like every first episode of a series whereas its building a bit of the backstory. Some of the voiceovers are a little over the top but all in all, its pretty good.

Avoid this one

What a waste of time, a painful listen, it plays like a bad radio melodrama. And what’s worse, the settings are so wonky on this title I can’t get it out of my library.
