This didn't land well for me...
I can't take this one seriously. The writer is clearly trying to create a Femme Fatale type atmosphere with this story, and it just doesn't land well at all. All of it is just unbelievable and not in a good way. How the leadership role fell into the main character's hand and everyone stood around and accepted it like "yeah, that sounds like a good idea", was not at all convincing. The "If I leave everything falls apart" attitude from her caused me to cringe at times. She was treated poorly as a child, but she has no prior military or survival experience, no leadership experience and yet people defer to her with their lives because it's convenient?
And her daughter and her boyfriend are idiotic to say the least. I have read other books where the lead role was that of a woman in conflict and each time they were beaten they still ended up coming out on top.
This is just a wannabe Mrs. Rambo story with no real experience to back it up or commitment to character development. She just is. No thanks.
