If David Goethel were a cat, he would be in the market for more lives. But David is a small boat fisherman, an endangered species, who works tirelessly for himself and others like him to survive. Follow along on that journey with sea stories and autobiography mixed with twists and turns of science and management as David and his family work relentlessly to feed America sustainable seafood.

Fishing is not a job; it is a way of life. David is determined to maintain that life, fighting through storm-tossed adversity
that nature lays out endlessly, and the new sinister efforts of a modern society that lives on land and has no concept of how those at sea ensure their own survival as well as the fish on which they depend.

Endangered Species will take listeners on a journey through time while demonstrating why some individuals will always be called to work the sea.

David Goethel is a small boat fisherman with a desire to protect his family, his way of life, and the world around him. Discover through the words and vivid descriptions by David as he advocates for his way of life and protecting those that all too often become endangered. A clear picture of desires, hopes, and reality!

David Goethel, the author, vividly describes his experiences and thoughts on his profession. His political suggestions for proper fishing rules, the inner peek into the life and dangers of being a small business fisherman, and how weather plays a pivotal role in the family business are mesmerizing! I know this is true for other professions – when they are available for activities, no one else would be and vice versa – but I never truly thought about it until it was explained so proficiently by Goethel. His dedication and beliefs take the listener on an unexpected journey filled with boredom, action, frustration, and danger! His introduction to the political standings on this topic was done smoothly. He presents a solid argument for protecting not only this way of life but also the fish. The dialogue not only furthered the story giving the audience an inside glimpse but also flowed authentically. Each character was fully developed and well-rounded.

The narrator, Alan Taylor delivered a solid performance giving a strong voice to the characters and capturing the vulnerability of each throughout each situation. His delivery was professional, clear, and flowed fluidly. I thought he spoke clearly and demonstrated the passion of David accurately.

The TV shows that focus on fisherman and their lives do not hold a candle to this book! Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It kept my attention with moments of comedy while also being educational. I learned a lot about an industry / occupation I was not familiar with and the bureaucracy involved.

Entertaining story that also sheds light on the plight of small boat fishermen.
