Demelza Carlton’s Enchant is a spellbinding reimagining of the classic Beauty and the Beast tale, rich in magic, mystery, and slow-burning romance. From the very first chapter, Carlton enchants readers with a world steeped in cursed castles, dangerous secrets, and a heroine whose inner strength and outer beauty shine equally bright.

The story follows a young woman named Zuleika, who is far more than just a pretty face. She’s intelligent, courageous, and—most importantly—compassionate. Her beauty isn’t just skin-deep, and that’s one of the most refreshing parts of this fairy tale retelling. She represents the kind of heroine we need more of: soft when it counts, but fierce when it matters.

The “beast,” an aloof and tormented prince, is cursed with a physical transformation that mirrors his emotional scars. His journey alongside Zuleika is slow and steady, developing with a believable tension that keeps you turning the page. Carlton does an excellent job of building the chemistry between them without rushing the romance.

The writing itself has a poetic beauty to it, full of vivid imagery and atmospheric detail. The descriptions of enchanted gowns, moonlit gardens, and mystical beasts make this book feel like a dreamy blend of a gothic romance and a dark fairy tale. If you’re someone who loves aesthetics, this book delivers on the visual imagination.

However, at times the pacing lags slightly in the middle, and the magic system isn’t always deeply explained. Still, these are minor flaws in an otherwise gorgeously written fantasy.

Final Verdict:
Enchant is a beautiful story about the power of love, inner strength, and the courage to see beyond appearances. Perfect for fans of fairy tale retellings with a darker, more romantic twist. If you’re looking for a book that feels like a glamorously haunted dream, this one’s for you.

📖 Beauty Book Review: Enchant by Demelza Carlton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5 Stars)

I’ve read some beauty and the beast retellings and I’ve yet to be able to finish one. This one had such interesting details and fascinating characters. The spin that was put on it was brilliant honestly. I really loved it.

I knew I had to listen to another by this author and I’ve already started Dance the Cinderella retelling. It has a Mulan element but mostly I think that route was taken because of the Chinese Cinderella which I’ve heard is where the original story is from. Idk if that’s true or not. But it’s also a brilliant story so far. I have to say this is one of my new favorite authors for sure! So glad I found these books! I don’t know how more people aren’t raving about them and the author.

This twist on Beauty & the Beast was very enjoyable. I love the narrators voice, Fits the story so so well. The clever way the author wrote the cover up for her name as well as the difference in how the curse affected the castle and towns people different from the traditional tail was quite refreshing and so much worse. please be warned this book has grape in it. So make sure that isn't a trigger for u. wish the story was longer though but was enough to be satisfied.

loved it.

It was a lovely twist of an old story. It kept some of the basic story but this was captivating. The “beast” was never beastly or mean nor even helpless. I thought it was interesting how he was able to continue to lead his people without dominating them. Belle had an interesting twist as well😏

Enchanting

l really liked this version right up until the end. the very last chapter is a bedroom scene. I would not call it erotic but thought I should warn people because I read a lot of YA. There is also a rape again not descriptive but intense if your reader is in youngish.

Now to the actual review. I read a lot of Beauty and the Beast retellings and it's always nice to find ones that have fresh twists on the tale.

This time the prince doesn't deserve his curse, his brother the evil king cursed him. The real problem is that the evil king ravaged his Belle. How will she ever love him when his true face is the same as a monster's?

This was such a good premise, and an interesting message about how often in real life we are never punished for out own faults, but rather for the sins of others.

The Narrator Mary Sarah, did an amazing job tackling this story full of hard questions. She was great at reading the narrative as well as giving each character a unique voice and bringing them to life.

Not your Disney Beauty and the Beast.

A simple Beauty and the Beast retelling where the witch curses a prince in anger at the king. The problem is that she did not create a failsafe, had never met said prince and when she does find him, she falls in love.

Most of the book could have been deleted if the characters had just talked. But then again, then there would not be a book.

This was a great reimagining of Beauty and the Beast. Great characters and an enthralling love story. I can’t wait to dig into more of the series, and maybe see the comeuppance of a certain character.

A wonderful retelling
