Publisher's summary

In defiance of society's strictures, Lady Olivia is determined to share her fascination with fencing with other ladies and enjoy the thrill of facing an opponent like the dashing Lord Milbourn. Ignoring convention comes at a cost, however. If she wants to start a fencing academy for ladies, then her family insists that she agree to a betrothal to the wealthy, but conventional, Lord Saunders. Despite her secret longing for Lord Milbourn and their shared passion for fencing, she reluctantly agrees.

Then tragedy strikes. The day before her school opens, Lady Olivia discovers a dead body in her office, adorned with a marble cherub resting upon his shoulder. Horrified, she turns away to find she has left a trail of footprints through his blood, blood so fresh that it is still sticky.

Scandal erupts, and her detestable fiancé demands that she close the academy. She stubbornly refuses and turns to the dangerously handsome fencing master, Lord Milbourn, for help. While the master fencer's past holds dark and perhaps deadly secrets, her heart yearns to trust him.

Torn between her growing love for the attractive and enigmatic Lord Milbourn and her promise to Lord Saunders, Lady Olivia is determined to fight for her heart's desire, whatever the cost.

In general I really like this reader…

She’s really good at all the different voices and it’s very easy to keep the characters separate because she is so good. However it should be a requirement that readers are verified that they can pronounce important words correctly.

liked the strong women

first half was a bit frustrating.. police incompetent.. and left us with too many questions.. but I liked the last part very much.. I would have liked more of a push/ pull with relationship.. and his family. her family just seemed too cold.

Fencing isn't just for men.

I love this series of books by Amy Corwin. This one was especially good. Fencing wasn't a ladies sport, but Lady Olivia wouldn't accept that. So, she started her own school to teach ladies to fence. She was infatuated with the fencing instructor her brothers had and learned along with them. Unfortunately, bad things started to happen at her school and the authorities blamed her. Can Lord Milburn help her clear her name and find the real culprit? Will justice be served?

Narrator was grating!

I tried to listen to this twice, unfortunately the story was not captivating enough to endure the extremely poor narration! I’ve endured other audio books when the story was good enough to overcome…this was not one of them.

I just can't get more mad.

The way Olivia was treated was horrible. I wanted to punch someone. Not my favorite story in the series. I enjoyed the ending. This author is good at inserting unsuspecting twists.

A proper mystery and romance!

I loved the unique characteristics of a woman ahead of her time and a man so smitten by her he would sacrifice to make her dreams become a reality. I also found the mystery intriguing and full of suspicious characters who had vague motivations that seemed just plausible enough for me to wonder until the villain was exposed. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration and the writing and highly recommend this book.

No epilogue again

I don’t know why this author never has an epilogue but it’s starting to get on my nerves it always ends with a confession of love and that’s it no after the wedding how the daughter took to the new wife nothing about how the fencing school got on absolutely nothing after there confession of love I need to know what happens after the stories feel incomplete

THE story gets more and more unbelievable

The idea of the plot could be good but details are ridiculously unbelievable. It became almost irritating the more I listened

Not bad

I’ve listened to a few of this authors books over the last few weeks. I have a heavy school load and I need something light enough that it doesn’t distract me or require more time than I can allow. These novels fit the bill. The generally have good plots and are set in a time period I’m interested in but lack the heavy sex scenes inherent to most books of this genre which I personally like. However, it is supposed to be a romance and out of all the books I’ve listened to there hasn’t been a lot of build up they’re just suddenly being weirdly touchy affectionate without the middle ground to get there. Bro, where’s my longing where’s that pining? Anyways, it’s not a bad story but I really wish the romance aspect was better developed instead of seeming like an after thought sprinkled in.
