Publisher's summary

Fans of both Percy Jackson and Indiana Jones will be captivated by the lost civilizations, ancient secrets, and buried treasure found in the third book of the Ashtown Burials series, an action-packed adventure by N. D. Wilson, the author of Leepike Ridge and the 100 Cupboards trilogy.

Cyrus and Antigone Smith have thwarted Dr. Phoenix's plans—for the moment. And they've uncovered a new threat from the transmortals and managed to escape with their lives. Their next adventure will take them deep into the caves below Ashtown, where they will look for help from those imprisoned in one of Ashtown's oldest tombs.

worst narrator, ruins an excellent story

thankfully I am familiar with this fabulous series and was able to look beyond the terrible narration to enjoy the story being told. If you have made it this far, with such a mediocre, miserable narrator, you can understand how good this series is. I don't blame you if you had to return the book because the narrator's interpretations of characters were almost offensively stereotypical and fit the worst cliches you could think of when it comes to voice work. I was truly cringing throughout portions of the book and the other two because of how bad this narrator is. Speed it up a bit and it is better. Not good but better. Such a shame for an exciting story!

Swing and a miss

Is it better to hate a thing altogether than it is to ALMOST like it? I would rather the book have been total crap than for me to follow along, thinking I might like it, only to be disappointed in the end. The action sequences are vague and chaotic, impossible to follow. The main character thus far has undergone little to no development as a character, and I'm starting to suspect that the author wants his readers to be okay with this. The religious imagery is muddled and confusing. Lewis used allegory to present the Christian gospel. Tolkien's characters represented various Christian virtues. This author manages to use explicitly Christian imagery to accomplish nothing in the way of the Christian gospel or Christian virtue. Swing and a miss.

We need the end

The series is grate and tells an interesting and fascinating story. But this book had a very interesting ending. This ending had many lose ends such as, where did Phoenix go, where is Cyrus, what happened to Greaves.

This book was written long ago I think it is about time you wrote the next book

One of my favorite series

The story is written excellently. Entertainment that also encourages you live, and to live well. The narrator also does wonderful at the voices.

I really enjoyed these books

This series fills a need for fun, well-written fiction with a thoughtful message which is sure to appeal to modern audiences. It is better than most authors who write in the fantasy/ science fiction genres. This is the only modern fiction series I have listened to or read which comes close to the kind of insights with which Lewis and Tolkien sought to write. Wilson’s fiction is not quite that deep, but he does deliver a story that satisfies both our sense of adventure and our hunger for something deeper.

This book was released in 2013. Isn’t it time to write another to tie up some loose ends, Mr. Wilson?
