Intuitive listening is a practice that can be used in two ways. For the practice of self-care, however, you want to use intuitive listening on yourself. Intuitive listening can and should be accomplished in two ways: on an on-going basis, and for specific breaks. As a part of an on-going effort to keep yourself healthy and feeling well, you want to listen as often as you can. If you notice you are feeling uncomfortable about a certain situation, as though something isn’t sitting well with you, or if you are feeling pulled to do something that may defy the laws of logic, you should take the time to listen to this urge. This is your intuition speaking to you. A healthy empath develops a strong connection to their intuition and nurtures this relationship as an opportunity to help them maintain their holistic wellbeing.

The other form of intuitive listening requires you to block out some time and take a break. This can also be called an intuition-lead break. This means that you listen to your intuition and focus entirely on what it is telling you for a set period of time. You also honor what it is telling you. So, let’s say you block out some time and your intuition is telling you to spend that time relaxing in bed, you do just that. Furthermore, you should practice ignoring any feelings that are trying to pull you away from doing that, assuming that they are not your intuition speaking. You should not feel guilty when you are following your intuition, or feel as though you “should be doing other things.”

Instead, faithfully listen to your intuition during this time and honor what it tells you. This is not only a great way to develop the relationship between you and your intuition, but it is also a great way for you to take care of needs that you may have been neglecting.

Step in to your power

Emotionally, an empath may pick up on what others around them are feeling by suddenly feeling overwhelmed by the emotion themselves. For example, if you saw someone in a doctor’s office crying, you might feel the need to cry as well, or you may start crying yourself and not understand why. This is because you have picked up on the emotional energy of that person and are now experiencing it yourself. Alternatively, you may see people in a restaurant having a great time and celebrating something and suddenly you feel the urge to laugh, or you feel an overwhelming sensation of love or joy flood your body. This would be another empath experience.

Spiritually, empaths tend to feel what others are going through based on their intentions. For example, if someone is spiritually inclined but is ignoring their spirituality, you may feel their pain or burden as if it were your own. Or, you may feel as though you are having the same spiritual experiences another person is having even though they don’t make sense to you or they are not unique to you. Let’s say someone admitted they were seeing orbs floating around them, for example, you may start noticing the presence of orbs around you as well. This does not necessarily mean that you are not experiencing your own orbs, but it could mean that you are picking up on the experience of someone else and thus it is being cast into your own reality.

Physically, empaths have a tendency to feel the pain or sensations of someone else based on what they hear or see. If someone were to roll their ankle in front of you, for example, you may suddenly feel a pain in your own ankle that would make it hard to walk. Or, if someone was explaining love to you and they felt as though their own heart center was physically buzzing with the sensation of love, you may have the same experience as well. From watching them, hearing them, and absorbing their energies, you may also feel this yourself.

Be ready to embrace yourself

Empaths who are not experienced in protecting and cleansing their emotional and spiritual bodies may find themselves in a chronic state of feeling “unwell” with no explanation. The number of symptoms they may feel varies from person to person, but can also vary based on where the unwanted or unwelcomed energies are coming from and what type of energies they are. Empaths may feel muscular aches, headaches or migraines, upset stomachs, diarrhea, nausea, a lack of appetite or an increased appetite, disrupted sleep patterns, and many other symptoms that affect them physically. They may feel as though they are always sick, but never sick enough to justify taking time off of work or off of daily duties to help care for themselves. Alternatively, this chronic state of feeling unwell may become their new normal, thus meaning that they feel doomed to living a life where they never quite feel right. Fortunately, if you have these symptoms as a result of being an empath, there is a way that they can be healed and you can resume your normal life, even if you have been feeling chronically unwell for so long that you don’t remember what that feels like. This book will further discuss these symptoms and what you can do about them in a later chapter where we discuss the mandatory self-care practices of empaths.

I now understand so much about myself!

Those who are inexperienced or who are unaware of what is happening may feel emotions to an extreme level and may struggle to gain control over their emotions. They may cry without the ability to stop themselves, laugh intensively, or feel anger to a very deep level. Alternatively, they may become too hurt by the constant mood swings and discover a way to turn off their emotions entirely, either through bottling them up or through unhealthy coping methods. Those who are completely unaware of their abilities will feel a variety of different emotions, but will often be plagued by anger and frustration. This is because their body is attempting to relieve the energy that has built up inside of them but they are denying themselves the right to feel the emotions. For some people, switching back and forth or feeling so deeply can be painful so they choose to feel nothing at all. Unfortunately, as humans we do not have this ability and so they tend to live very angry or bitter lives until they are able to or willing to change their mind about how they approach their emotions.

The way empathic abilities work is fairly simple: we are all energetic beings and we all have the ability to “absorb” energies around us. We are like walking sponges who pick up on everything that surrounds us. When we do, they then affect us on a deeper energetic level. For example, when we pick up on angry or sad emotions we may feel heavy and frustration, or even lingering feelings of depression that comes from unknown sources. We may also feel physical pain in certain areas of our body, such as our hearts. Alternatively, when those around us are happy or the vibe is positive, we may feel extremely elated and ecstatic as we absorb the positive energies around us. The thing about being an empath is that it can affect you quickly. You may, for example, be in an incredible mood one moment and then pick up on a negative or uncomfortable energy and switch to an uncomfortable or negative mood within a moment. Switching back and forth between emotions is almost effortless for empaths, as they are driven by the energies around them if they are not careful. For those who are unaware of how to control them, this can lead to them being very erratic in their emotional behaviors. Think about a child for a moment. Children are feelers who have the ability to feel emotions very deeply. They can switch from happy to frustrated or sad within a matter of seconds, and they will feel this emotion very deeply. They may be laughing one minute and then crying the next, or crying one minute and then laughing the next. Although they may be unable to identify the feelings or where exactly they are coming from, they know that they are feeling them and they struggle to censor their feelings. This is very much like an empath. Empaths are essentially people who feel so deeply that they cannot help themselves, and they must learn to “control” these feelings in a certain way so that they are a benefit to them and not a burden. You will learn more about that process of gaining “control” throughout this book.

I dont feel crazy anymore

First and foremost, you should always continue practicing your empathic abilities. Remember that exploring and practicing them essentially means that you are exploring and practicing being yourself which is essential if you want to lead a happy and healthy life. Continually practicing these abilities will help you stay true to yourself and use your abilities to help advance you through life, rather than attempting to hide from them and thus denying part of yourself and allowing that denial to hinder your life.

You do not necessarily need to set aside time each and every day to practice your empathic abilities, but you should certainly be investing time each week in honing your skills. Invest time in caring for yourself, intentionally listening to your intuition, practicing reading the energies of people, places, and things, and performing other basic tasks to keep your skills active. Although you will use them unconsciously on a daily basis, practice bringing them into your consciousness on a regular basis so that you can identify how they are serving you and if there is any way that you could use them to your benefit better than you presently are.

The more you practice using your skills the stronger they will grow and the more confident you will become in them. This means that you will increase your ability to listen to your intuition, to honor yourself and your needs, and to use energies to provide you with important information and knowledge that can assist you throughout life. Make sure that you are invested in continuing your practice so that you can continue growing it. Anything that is not growing is dying, so keep this in mind and be very intentional about your practice. It does not need to consume your life but it should certainly be an important part of your life. Ideally it should fit into the balance of your life overall and increase your overall wellbeing, not take away from it.

Life changing.. brings peace.

People who are awakening to their empathic abilities often report that they feel as though their intuition is growing in strength. Your intuition is the spiritual voice that guides you and helps you pick up on information and energies around you. It can help you decide whether something is safe or unsafe, right or wrong, happy or sad, or otherwise. For those who are not presently aware of their empathic abilities, they may be restricted to only a more basic sense of their intuition, or the survival part of it. This is the part that will help them determine right from wrong. Those who are further awakened, though, start noticing much deeper abilities with their intuition. They may start feeling as though they can tell someone’s mood, thoughts, or feelings based on the voice that is their intuition. They may also be able to start predicting how people are going to think, act, or respond to certain situations. Essentially, the intuition goes beyond a basic survival voice and into something that assists the individual in determining and absorbing much more information from a situation, beyond a basic “fight or flight” response. If you have noticed that you are starting to pick up on more information from different circumstances and that your intuition is becoming harder to ignore, then you may be awakening to your empathic abilities. The more your intuition grows in strength, the more powerful your empathic abilities will become. This is the part of you that you are actually going to focus on strengthening and honing as you learn to control your empathic abilities, which you will learn about later on.

Flourishing empath

One great way to practice getting in control over your empathic abilities is to intentionally feel the energy of a person, place, or thing. There are many ways that you can do this, but the best way is to simply go places to into experiences with the intention of feeling energy instead of anything else. For example, if you want to feel energy intentionally you might go into a second hand shop and intentionally listen to your intuition and your body to notice any signs of the energy that you are feeling in the space. To take it a step further you might pick up something such as an old piece of jewelry and close your eyes and allow your empathic abilities to tell you more about the piece than your eyes or ears could. Instead of asking about it, listen to your intuition and see what it says about the piece. What energies are you getting from it and how does it make you feel?

You can also go to places like historic sites or other sites of importance and allow yourself to intentionally feel the energy in the place. Close your eyes and see how much information you can pick up about these places without reading anything or otherwise searching for clues with your physical senses. Instead, let your empathic abilities and intuition do all of the teaching for you.

When you practice intentionally tapping into energies like this you can get a great deal of information about different people, places and things. You also expand your knowledge on what your empathic abilities feel like and what sensations you get when they are “on” or working. This means that you will begin to develop a familiarity with how they feel and how they affect you so you can begin learning when it is your empathic abilities at work and when it is something else such as fear, anxiety, or your ego which may be driving you alongside your intuition.

As you continue refining your skills, you should also continue working on your relationship with your intuition. Understand that just like with any relationship, this relationship requires consistent nurturing and you should always be prepared to work on it. Even the most skilled empaths are regularly working on nurturing their relationship with their intuition. You can nurture your relationship with your intuition through aforementioned strategies, but especially through intuitively-lead breaks. These breaks will allow you to step outside of the realm of logic and rationality entirely and simply listen to your intuition and fulfill its needs, and your own. Listening to your intuition on a daily basis during regular activities is another great way to build your relationship. You can also practice tapping into your intuition further than that. As you learned previously, you can ask it questions. However, the questions you ask can go much deeper than “this or that” or “yes or no” questions. You can ask your intuition to guide you, to give you signs that you are doing the right thing or which thing is the right thing, or any other number of questions that fit you or your unique situation. Doing this will help you increase the strength of the bond between you and your intuition, and it will also help you trust it more so that you are not afraid to follow it when it is encouraging you to do something that may seem outrageous, irrational, or against all logic.

Finding yourself again.

Being an empath can affect people in several different ways. As we have explored in the previous section, they can feel anything from physical to emotional pain depending on the situation and the energies they have picked up on.

Empaths are incredibly sensitive people who have the ability to feel things extremely deeply, whether it be spiritual, emotional, mental, or physical. These people are highly attuned to their environment and are heavily affected by everything that goes on around them. Some are willing to master their emotions so that they can feel more in control over themselves and their emotions, whereas others are unsure as to how they can, or are simply not willing to.

Finally, those who are experienced with their empathic abilities are ones who feel deeply but who know how to manage their feelings. They are capable of letting the emotions flow freely, but they are also capable of relieving themselves of energies and emotions that do not belong to them. For example, if they are in a place that feels extremely unhappy for them, they can ground themselves and allow the heavy and negative emotions to flow away through their grounding technique to assist them in returning to a more positive and free-flowing state.

Spirits!

The best way to practice setting boundaries is to set them before they even need to be used. Look back at your life and discover areas where, looking back, you wished you had said no. Then, create a boundary for those circumstances that will allow you to say no in the future. Prepare yourself for this situation by knowing that you will say no should this situation ever come up again. Then, if and when it does come up again, say no. Stay firm in your no and refuse to let anyone bash you down, no matter how hard they might try to intimidate you. When people are not used to you setting boundaries they will likely fight at first to get through them but you have to stay true to yourself. When the situation is over, make a conscious effort to eliminate yourself from the situation entirely so that you can take a few minutes to feel through any emotions or energies you may be experiencing, whether they are yours or they are borrowed from the other person. Then, ground yourself so that you can release the remaining energies from your auric field. Finally, shield yourself from allowing any further negative energies to come in. Should you know that you are going into a situation where you are going to have to assert your boundary and the other person may fight back, try and shield yourself beforehand to at least avoid some of the unwanted energies from coming through into your energy field.

Easily integrate into any lifestyle.

Any time you are going through something, ensure that you always feel your way through it. It is especially important that you do not bottle up emotions or attempt to push them away without first having worked through them. Grounding, shielding, and other types of empathic abilities and practices will absolutely not do the trick. As an empath you feel emotions deeply and in order to get them back out of your system you need to feel them back out.

Think of a needle. When you go to the doctor and get a needle you can feel it going in and coming out. Neither of them are pleasant experiences, but both are mandatory. You cannot get it back out without feeling the process. The same goes for emotions and energies that you absorb. You have to feel them in order for them to truly leave your etheric body. If you have not felt them leave, they have not left and they are lingering and hiding somewhere within’ you.

This can be a scary bit of knowledge for empaths. Considering how deeply you feel things and how much stuff you may have buried prior to learning the knowledge in this book or during the process of a rut, it can be overwhelming knowing how much you have to work through. The best thing you can do in those situations is tackle one piece at a time. Take your time and be patient with yourself and the process as you work through the many things that you have buried within’ you. Eventually you will have worked your way through the process and you will be ready to move forward and carry on with your life.

You need this book if your emotions control you!

Empath is a term used to describe people who are directly affected by other people’s energies. While we are all affected on one level or another, these are people who are affected deeply. They have the ability to intuitively feel what other people are feeling, and they are capable of absorbing those energies so that they feel as though they are their own energies. Whether they are aware of it or not, an empath will be able to unconsciously recognize and pick up on other people’s thoughts, feelings, desires, moods, and more. Those who are aware that they are an empath may have the ability to control how they are affected by the energy absorption, while those who aren’t or those who are unaware of how to control it may not be able to. This can lead to them feeling overwhelmed and highly emotional seemingly at random, and not having any idea as to why they are feeling this way. Many people believe that being an empath either “is” or “isn’t”, but this is not in fact true. The reality is that we are all an empath on one level or another, and we are all affected by the energies around us. Some have become masters at tuning out the energies and how it affects them, whereas others have not. Those who have not will either live feeling burdened by their emotions, or will learn to control them. Those who have mastered tuning it out can tune back in, but only if they want to. Those who speculate that only some people are capable of being empaths often fail to realize that we are all affected by the energies of our environment and those around us. Whether we care to admit it or not, these things affect us on a deep, energetic level.

This is such an amazing and wonderfully helpful course!
