Publisher's summary

Manipulation is a hidden psychological device, the purpose of which is to force a person, contrary to his interests, to perform the actions you need. An essential factor of manipulation is to make sure that a person himself wants to do it.

Someone will ask, “Why not just ask for a human?” And by what to ask, it’s not always easy. In some cases, this is not at all appropriate. Regardless of the scale, any request is still the responsibility. By asking, we confess our desires, somewhere in helplessness, somewhere in unprofessionalism. Also, opening up to another person (which in itself is often fraught) and asking him about something, we must understand that the response request will not take long. And who wants to be obliged? That is why people often resort to manipulative influence (from the innocent to the most immoral and arrogant).

Sometimes, people resort to manipulation for fear that they will be refused, or after they have already been refused their request. Imagine your request did not have a proper understanding, but for you, it is a matter of life and death. What to do? Offended, you might have burst into tears, squeezed out something dramatically painful, put an ultimatum, or resorted to blackmail. Not everyone can stand here. Is that familiar?

But what we can all do is manipulate. To the best of our moral beliefs, abilities, capabilities, and goals, we use various methods. The goals can be different, because what is manipulation is an instrument of influence on people, and it all depends on what hands it is in. Like a knife, it can serve as a murder weapon and can be a tool in a surgical operation.

We can say that manipulation is the wrong way to achieve the desired. But, only who will say that? Anyone who does not know what manipulation is and has never used it. Are there such people? Probably, only hermits and monks.
