Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Psychotherapy is a crucial component of mental health treatment. Three of the most common approaches are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Publisher's Summary
You are about to discover how the little known vagus nerve may be holding the keys to a life free from many of the health problems you struggle!
Within you is a complex, little known, superhighway running from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, where lots of information passes through constantly to and from the different organs and organ systems in between to and from the brain! This highway is the vagus nerve.
Anything that disrupts the flow of information throughout the ‘highway’ poses a danger to the connected organs and organ systems in between. And the effect of that disruption may manifest in the form of all manner of health problems, including inflammation, various addictions, obesity, epilepsy, migraines, chronic stress, anxiety, depression, rheumatoid diseases and many others.
So if you are experiencing these problems, it means something is wrong with your vagus nerve. Taking all manner of medication may help alleviate the symptoms but this does not treat the problem from its source, which essentially means you will end up with more problems like dependence on medication to ‘mask’ the symptoms.
Why would you want to sentence yourself to a life of constantly taking medication for these and other problems when you can optimize the health and functioning of your vagus nerve to neutralize all of them naturally?
By virtue that you are reading this, it is clear you are looking for a natural reliable solution to your problems. And lucky for you, this book will show you exactly how to take advantage of your vagus nerve to optimize your physical and mental health.
Everything is broken down in an easy to follow, beginner friendly, “non-science” language to help you follow and take immediate action!
In it, you will learn:
- The basics about the vagus nerve, including what it is, its structure, its location, the organs and organ systems connected to the vagus nerve, the vagus nerve efferent, vagal networks and much more
- The Pneumogastric nerve and its role in depression
- The link between inflammation, stress, depression and the vagus nerve, including why that should matter in your journey to better health
- The scientific link between the vagus nerve and your health
- Simple modalities for stimulating and treating the vagus nerve (VNS) using clinical and natural methods
- Possible dangers of vagus nerve stimulation, including how to stay safe throughout the process
- The most effective method to stimulate the vagus nerve
- How to use vagus nerve yoga practice for optimal health
- How you can massage your stomach correctly to stimulate your vagus nerve for optimal health

Second book was great, most of the narration was terrible
The first Book was and lightning in regards to emotional intelligence but I felt was a bit repetitive and I desired or if you go deeper into the subject. Second book was exactly what I was looking for, the terminology was explained in a way that made it hard to understand and remember.
There are three narrators for both of these books. The first narrator was boring and had very little inflection on each of his statements. The second narrator was slightly better but it seem like they were focusing on pronunciation of each of the scientific terms rather than explaining concepts with direction in each of the sentences. It was hard to stay focus because of the narration.
