Publisher's Summary

Boost your emotional intelligence to become a better leader!

The concept of emotional intelligence is one of the most exciting and practical concepts of today’s psychological science. In a nutshell, emotional intelligence means understanding emotions - both yours and other people’s. An emotionally intelligent person can:

  • cope with stressful situations
  • resolve conflicts
  • inspire and motivate others
  • communicate well
  • and much more!

No wonder that most managers believe emotional intelligence to be more important than IQ! Even the most brilliant intellect won’t be worth much if the person simply can’t deal with people in general (including themselves).

If you’re a leader, or aspire to be a leader, emotional intelligence is your key quality and you should work at it all the time. Here’s why:

  • your coworkers will trust you more because they’ll feel accepted and understood
  • you’ll boost your own motivation and inspire everyone around you
  • you’ll make better decisions because you won’t let anger, fear, or other emotions blind you
  • you’ll become a master at solving and preventing conflicts in your team

Does this sound good? Let’s work on your emotional intelligence!

With this audiobook, you will:

  • Understand how emotions function and learn how to influence them
  • Get to know surprising truths about self-awareness and empathy for others
  • Learn scientifically proven methods to boost your resilience and emotional control
  • Test your emotional intelligence and discover areas that you should focus on
  • And much, much more!

Great audioook

This audioookis recording sort of a cross between an elementary therapist’s guide and a self-help audioook recording. Whether the reader accepts or rejects the specific exercises, they may be helpful to some people.

psychological points of view

I like the style of providing tools to deal with certain situations. I believe in those tools that they provide because they work. easy-to-understand vocabulary, I really like it, I think most of the things you say are consistent with real life.

Amazing!!

Many today think that emotions are an uncontrollable entity. I like that this book, while acknowledging that emotions are powerful and spontaneous, can be managed. We have a lot of control over how we react to our own emotions and those of others. I like the balanced and practical advice, and the personal touches were heartwarming.

Most Useful!!

This book is a great listen whether you're looking for way to improve or understand your personal life or your work life. It's well written and easy to listen. The author does a great job of making the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) easy to grasp. She includes easy-to-relate-to examples of the various aspects of EI and then goes a step further to help the listener understand how they can use what they learned in order to improve their own level of EI. I love that the author included a chapter on the biology/chemistry behind our emotions and that she provides concrete ways to address chemical imbalances in our systems. At the end of the book, she includes a self-assessment quiz and a 10-day process for improving one's emotional intelligence. Throughout the book, I found myself reaching again and again for my highlighter so I could easily find passages that I found particularly relevant to my life and my personal journey towards increasing my own level of EI. I expect to be referring back to this book time and time again.

I enjoyed the information and this book helped me understand myself more than before. EI is applicable and makes absolute sense. How people develope and how that applies to who they are or what they can be is interesting. I appreciate this book and tell you now that it gave me a great appreciation for how I was raised and what my parents taught me. Excellent!!

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in individual human development. It can be considered a self help book, sure, but it is very entertaining and not very bossy if you know what I mean. It is as interesting as the Discovery channel. It is not new - 1995 - and I plan to listen an updated version. All I can say is, unless you are already 100% happy with your existence on earth, and feel your family and work life is 100% of what it could be, listen this book - it helps. It helps you understand how the human brain developed, why we act the way we do, and how life can be happier for you and those around you.

Well Guide

Most of our lives we have been focued on IQ. Schools ranked us according to GPA, the SAT and the ACT determines what schools students get in. We have come to assume that IQ is the most important determinant for success. But as we learn from Goleman, IQ accounts for approximate 20% of ones success in life and business. The major determinants are social and emotional intelligence.

Awesome!!

I am an administrator in a small school district. We decided to listen Emotional Intelligence as a group listen to get a better understanding of the concepts involved with this topic. The book is full of great information that can be used by people in any occupation. It is, however, somewhat tough to get through. Much of the material is dry despite Marc Cooper use of real life anecdotes. Many of the people that I listen the book with found it hard to get through. The ideas in this book are extremely useful. Just give yourself some time to get through it.

Very Useful!!

The classic textbook from the father of the 'EQ' concept. This is one of the must listen on anyone's listening list. Along with a few others - The Little Prince/Alchemist, 7 Habits, among many others (ex. the Bible/equivalent) - this is a marquee book that transcends other academics and correlates with all aspects of life across multiple relationships within marriages, friendships, family, friends and the workplace. For those struggling in marriages, there's actually a pretty decent section on this, which frankly, would foretell divorces. And for those struggling with parenting 'troubled' kids, this is just as insightful. The one marshmallow now vs. later study was popularized by THIS book into our everyday masses. A little bit of everything for everyone, with a scientific approach, way ahead of its time. A recent '8th Habit' commingles brute raw intelligence with emotional or social intelligence to bring justice to what not all traditional IQ-smarts translate to success in life, but rather, the new world EQ.
