Publisher's summary

The award-winning Regency fantasy continues.

Emma Woodhouse needs a dragon. Her life depends on it. But Emma’s dragon is claimed...by Elizabeth Darcy.

When Emma Woodhouse meets newlywed Elizabeth, a brush of their gloved hands unmasks the Darcys’ fantastic secret. Emma has discovered Yuánchi, the deadly dragon coveted by both Emperor Napoleon and England’s secretary of war.

Secrets are nothing new for Emma. She has her own: a deathbed promise and a clever plan to achieve it. The Darcys’ power, forbidden to her, might even help.

But clever plans go astray. As treason stalks a royal ball, an avenging queen rises to ravage England. Survival rests on a fabled alliance: Emma and her secrets, Elizabeth and her dragon, and the magical music of Mary Bennet and Georgiana Darcy.

Will Emma, Elizabeth, and Mary unravel the mystery of the great wyves in time to save England and themselves?

Emma’s Dragon is the second book in the award-winning Jane Austen Fantasy series. This boldly original story is filled with magical dragons, strong heroines, and a brilliantly reimagined Regency that challenges barriers of class, race, and love.

A second book in their series

This is the second book in the series.
The first book gave us an introduction to draca in England with Elizabeth, her sisters, and Darcy. Loved it!
This second book introduces us to Emma Woodhouse. Her sisters husband is awful and her introduction of her friend to society isn’t going well. It’s a bit frustrating. We are introduced to the inner workings of the war, politics, schemes, and slavers. It really is a complex story.
I liked the complexity of the plot however I’m not a fan of Emma, never have been. She’s tremendous annoying to me. What happens to Elizabeth is also very disappointing. I do hope book three comes out faster because I’m not a patient reader when it comes to series. I would have waited until they all came out but I love dragons and doomed myself.

Dark and Beautiful

This sequel to ‘Miss Bennet’s Dragon’ takes off where volume one ended. (Read that book first!). Lizzy and Darcy have come to London, where Mary and Georgiana hold a salon on music and women’s rights. Into this comes Miss Emma Woodhouse, a young woman of good family and theoretical wealth (stolen by her brother in law), and possessed of three secrets. And likely four, although we will not learn the last in this volume: why does Emma believe that she cannot bind a draca?
Emma is actually sympathetic, Harriet has a backbone, and Mr. Knightly is almost completely unlike the original character. This, and a plot involving magic, betrayal, creatures out of legend, treason, war, and bad decisions by good people, makes this a compelling read. It is very dark, but lit with beauty. It mixes love and sacrifice with tragedy and courage. You may hate this book at times, you may throw it across the room, and you will probably cry if books can make you do so…but you will not be sorry you read it, and I nearly guarantee that you will read the next.

The audio is well done, with good distinctions between the characters, and flows easily.

Highly recommended.
