Publisher's summary

Lia Nautilus may be a Mermaid, but she's never lived in the ocean. War has ravaged the seven seas ever since the infamous Little Mermaid unleashed a curse that stripped Mer of their immortality. Lia has grown up in a secret community of land-dwelling Mer, hidden among Malibu's seaside mansions. Her biggest problems are surviving P.E. and keeping her feelings for Clay Ericson in check. Sure, he's gorgeous in that cocky, leather jacket sort of way and makes her feel like there's a school of fish swimming in her stomach, but getting involved with a human could put Lia's entire community at risk.

So it's for the best that he's dating that new girl, right? That is, until Lia finds out she isn't the only one at school keeping a potentially deadly secret. And this new girl? Her eyes are dead set on Clay, who doesn't realize the danger he's in. If Lia hopes to save him, she'll have to get closer to Clay. Lia's parents would totally flip if they found out she was falling for a human boy, but the more time she spends with him, the harder it is for her to deny her feelings. After making a horrible mistake, Lia will risk everything to stop Clay from falling in love with the wrong girl.

I want more of this world.

Omg. This story. I loved every moment of this YA romance. It was exactly what I needed to get out of a reading slump.
Not to mention it has the exact elements of my favorite type of romance.
Action, magic, cute and swoon worthy scenes, a mean girl villan, great world building and complex yet realistic characters. I have sooo many positive things to say about this book but don't want to spoil anything. 5 million stars.
I bought both the book and audible version. I would listen to this book on the way to and from work (45mins each way) The narrator was amazing. I love it when the narrator is so good it sounds more like a movie vs. someone reading to you.

Amazing Performance, Great Storyline

I read on another review that the main character is a bit naive and I have to agree, with that being said that is not to say that it is not a truly amazing storyline. The plot is riveting, while it may be a bit predictable at times, its doused in pretty little easter eggs. Overall wonderful!

When I first previewed the book and heard the narrators version of a male voice, I thought that in terms of narration that this would be a flop for sure. However, what Mollo-Christensen lacks in baritone she makes up for with natural emotion. You can FEEL the emotion or action the character is displaying before she says 'He laughed' or anything of the like. It was a truly amazing performance!

the power of love, YA

To save him she must siren him. In this YA, mermaids were left with a curse many years ago. Learn how some mermaids live on land. Add in an evil girl and magic. I didn't want to put it down because i enjoyed this book so much. Thank you both sarah and tobie for a great listen.

Heroine is annoying, but I guess story is okay

Kinda Sorta Spoiler-ish....
Not finished yet. It's not too bad, the heroine is just seriously annoying. I keep rooting for her to be caught and land in some seedy Mer-jail. The story tries to lead me to sympathize with the girl, but I'm sorry. I just can't. She's selfish, jealous, delusional, and manipulative. I'm also not a fan of Clay. He's raunchy, one dimensional and not at all appealing...so maybe they deserve each other. Saving grace is her BFF who . As annoyed as I am, it must not be that bad since I continue to listen. lol.

Here's the gist. Leah, a distant relative of the little mermaid, is in love with a human. Human loverboy gets manipulated by another mermaid...so Leah manipulates him better, but justifies it by saying she's "protecting" him. Not sure where this is going to end, which I guess is why its not too bad. It can end a few different ways, so I keep listening and just throw my fist in the air every now an again when the heroine irritates me..which is literally every few minutes.
