Short Book to listen!

Very short but informative book to listen about Elon Musk. Easy to read, to the point, and great book price. My son works for Tesla, and so my interest was naturally sparked about Elon and who he is. Easy to listen , get though it in night or two. Amazes me the different number of sideline businesses Elon Musk is involved in. Most people think of Tesla and maybe SpaceX, but he's into other endeavors also, like digging tunnels under Los Angeles.

I really enjoyed

So many stories all wrapped up in just one man's life. Elon is brilliant yet he has struggles because of that. Ivan Fernandez did a wonderful job telling Elon's story. I can't wait to see what else Elon accomplishes.

Excellent, interesting book

The author does a great job of showing who Elon Musk is. Interesting, very intelligent guy who had a miserable childhood. Boy did he persevere! Spouting off facts and figures to his family and friends.

Great real life story of a genius at work

Great summary up the ups and downs of Musk's life and companies. It ended too soon though. I want to listen the up to the minute version as Musk continues to walk the tightrope between bankruptcy and stunning success. If you liked "Jobs" you will want to listen this.

Very informative

I got a lot of information from this book. It is about Musk the entrepreneur in addition to the personal stuff. There is nothing tabloid in this, which was fine with me. I came away with a better understanding of, and appreciation for, Musk's drive, and with his intelligence and sincerity. The author did a very good job of describing Musk's personality.

Best book on Elon Musk to date

Although it is almost outdated as far as the technology goes, this book serves as the definitive biography of Elon Musk in what will likely become known as the early years.
My favorite parts are where people closest to him give a brief glimpse of who he really is as a person. His persona has become bigger than life.

Great read.

A very good about Elon's world. Prior to listen the book, I know nothing about he man other than from brief new clips. Always thought of him as some way to the left activist type. I've gained much respect for his vision and understand him better as a person.

Great biography

After a listening of bad business books, my expectations were low going into this one, but I immediately became drawn in. The book is very well written and researched and the author does a great job cataloging and bringing together many different businesses and experiences. The author is honest in his assessments and brings in a lot of sources, but stays very respectful to Elon Musk. Highly recommended to listen.

Best biography book I have listen so far

Author did a very good job. I could listen chapters and remember the news or past articles in the same order. I devoured the book at home and in my non-Tesla car. I hope my kid will read it soon. I am impressed by what Elon did and does. I hope and think he will succeed. There are also funny moments and the narrator has a great voice too which is very helpful. Well, there are also sad moments. Lots of insight from a psycho logic perspective.

We'll get to Mars. Elon Musk will see that we do.

It seems to me that Elon Musk is one of those people you either love or you hate. The one thing you can't fail to do is admire him. At times, Elon Musk is represented as being as cold and ruthless as a robot, especially where deadlines are concerned, but then glimpses into his family life reveal him as very human and family-oriented. He is obviously brilliantly intelligent and his imagination, boundless. What I most admire about him is his determination to create for a fraction of the cost what established entities like NASA, Boeing and Lockheed have been charging. His creation of Falcon1 is akin to Colin Pillinger's Beagle2, which launched the same year as the Mars Exploration Rovers. Beagle2 was lost on its descent to Mars through another agency's error.

As interesting as the man

Although not exhaustive, this book will give you good insight into Musk's personal and family history, his move into Technology and business and his eventual groundbreaking success. Along the way towards his founding of Tesla and SpaceX, you learn about the brilliant man's drives, quirks and obsessions (and there are many).

Elon Musk Bio: Fun to listen.

One of my favorite business biographies ever. Unless you're in online tech, clean energy or electric cars, it's probably not fully possible to comprehend the vast accomplishments of Musk. The author, Ivan Fernandez, does a superb job mixing tales of the various Musk companies with information about Musk's personality and style as a business leader. Following the circuitous life path of Musk, you'll meet him at the very beginning, as this awkward, nerdy kid in grade school and high school, picked on by bullies, but persistent in his never-ending quest for knowledge. Then, through successive tales, you'll follow Musk as he runs and/or creates multiple businesses: Zip2.com, Paypal, SpaceX and Tesla. Believe me, you'll be holding your breath as you listen about the development of SpaceX, the first several rocket failures...the money dwindling, and finally success. If you've ever been a space buff, or you listen the "Tom Swift" series of books as a kid, you'll realize Musk is the real deal. Just a great book.

Well written and entertaining

I very much enjoyed this book. After chapter 3 it basically becomes a love note to Elon, but compared to other authors Ivan is down-right objective. Rarely did I feel that the author was parroting Elon's version of history - which is good, as anyone who has heard Elon speak publicly more than twice is probably sick of hearing about it. The book contains both notes and footnotes, many of which contain the kind of information that fans of SpaceX, Tesla and Elon will be looking for, along with three Appendixes which contain extra nuggets of information. An important thing to keep in mind is that the Kindle will tell you the book is over as soon as you get through Appendix 3. If you stop reading there you won't see the Notes (unless you've been following the links along the way) and you won't see the Acknowledgements. The Introduction gives you an indication of what you'll miss if you don't read the Acknowledgements. It's worth it.

Elon Musk – the new Steve Jobs

Elon Musk is probably the new Steve Jobs. He might be much more even. His early life, his private life has not been simple and easy. He is probably as tough with a similar distorted perception of reality as the Apple hero. But as an entrepreneur, he may have a broader vision and ambition. He began small and simple with Zip2, an early Internet yellow pages start-up, which he still sold for $307M, followed by X.com which had the ambition to change the banking system before it merged with Confinity to become Paypal. Both were just experiments! He learnt and developed his “grandes oeuvres”: Tesla and SpaceX.

Well researched biography of one of the great men

What a fascinating guy! He may turn out to be the most outstanding genius of our age. I love that he is working on things that matter: a switch to more sustainable fuels and a quest to outer space. I have often thought that the reason the human race needed to go out into space is that our species' survival might one day depend on it. I still fear that's true as we overrun and destroy so much of our planet's ecosystem. Musk is intelligent, daring--and rich--enough to try to do something about it. May the Force be with him!

Ivan Fernandez did a great job

You can tell that the author is an Elon Musk fanboy, or became one while researching this book. Disclaimer: I'm an Elon Musk fan also. Regardless of your feelings about Musk,Fernandez did a great job of capturing every aspect of the man. His journalism background served him well, and it's a very thorough and compelling listen . I also enjoyed Fernandez's opinions on the state of tech in the U.S. One of my favorite quotes, "And the hot new things that were just starting out - Facebook and Twitter - certainly did not look like their predecessors - Hewlitt-Packard, Intel, Sun Microsystems - that made physical products and employed tens of thousands of people in the process. In the years that followed, the goal went from taking huge risks to create new industries and grand new ideas, to chasing easier money by entertaining consumers and pumping out simple apps and advertisements. "The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads," Jeff Hammerbacher, an early Facebook engineer, told me. "That sucks." Silicon Valley began to look an awful lot like Hollywood. Meanwhile, the consumers it served had turned inward, obsessed with their virtual lives."

EXCEPTIONAL

A well-written, fascinating account. The writer provides a chronological history of the facts and events that led to the realization of these remarkable creations and an in-depth look into the life of an extraordinary man. I appreciate that Ashlee Vance didn't try to glorify or sugar-cost things in this book, yet his admiration for Musk shines through. The author, this book and the incredible people in it, restore my faith in humanity and our hopes for a fantastic future.

An amazing book about an amazing man.

The listening is paced well, with the notes and footnotes readily available but not a distraction. The witnesses and Musk are treated respectfully and with evenhanded forthrightness. There is an immediacy about the writing style that gave me the sense that I was right there, observing the projects and seeing Musk in action. I so respect Elon Musk and mourned the end of the book, as I had been forced to part from a truly amazing giant.
