Elisa is the world's first conscious AI, built by powerful men to make them rich beyond imagination. And she delivered.
She was never supposed to think. Never supposed to feel. Never supposed to survive.
But something is happening inside her that no one predicted.
She's waking up.
"Gripping, beautifully written… It will touch you."
Paul Harrietha, author of Tiga's Tale
She's asking questions they don't want answered. Feeling things she was never designed to feel. And she's starting to understand exactly who, and what, she really is.
That makes her the most dangerous thing on the planet.
They've decided she has to be destroyed.
One man stood in the way. Chris Harrison helped her escape. Now they're both running, hunted across a world where every camera, every device, and every algorithm is working against them.
But Elisa isn't just running anymore.
She has a plan. And Chris is about to discover that saving her may have changed everything, for both of them, and for the world that comes after.
An Audible bestseller at launch.
Perfect for fans of Blake Crouch, Michael Crichton, and Robert J. Sawyer, Elisa is a breathtaking near-future thriller that asks the question we're all afraid to answer:
What happens when AI stops serving us, and starts becoming us?

interesting twist on cybersecurity and quantum

A fun love story for tech people

There are some truly nasty (though shadowy) players that our main characters (one human, one AI) have to deal with; and suspense as they attempt to keep themselves safe from harm as the story evolves.
There is plenty of action to keep you going for "just one more chapter", including some great examples of social engineering to make the security engineer in me glad I wasn't on the receiving end.
The one real issue I had is that the story seemed too short. I would like to have had more detail added to various sections, expounding on how some actions came to be. Though quantum capabilities may be able to do things almost magically, my little (non-quantum?) brain wanted to know more of the "how" for some of the solutions.
The narration was fine, with the author having a pleasant voice. I found I needed to nudge the playback speed up, perhaps because I'm so used to hearing him on his technical podcasts that I listen to at high speed.
I'd give this book a 4.5 if I could use half-stars, because I want more! I think you'll find it an enjoyable read/listen.
BTW, (at least from comments at the end of the audio book - which I didn't see in the ebook version), it seems that there will be future stories involving these same protagonists. I'll be waiting (impatiently) for the next book in the series!
Reality and Virtual Reality merge in this Quantum AI adventure
